1.1. IntroductionThe German-Thai Chamber of Commerce (GTCC) in Bangkok is a member of the German Chambers of Commerce Worldwide Network (AHK), with 130 locations in 90 countries. Since its establishment in Bangkok in 1962, the GTCC has maintained itself as a reliable intermediary between German and Thai businesses, thus contributing to the dynamism of the economic development in both countries.

In the course of 2014, GTCC put together almost 90 events and activities that encouraged further development and interaction of the German-Thai business community within Thailand and abroad. Thanks to the high level of dedication of the GTCC team, recognition of the Chamber in the business community was heightened enabling GTCC to constantly enjoyed opportunities to collaborate closely with various par tners and counterpar ts, who added variety to the nature of GTCC services and activities.

1.2. Membership At the close of the fiscal year 2014, GTCC proudly maintained its position as the biggest bilateral European Chamber of Commerce in Thailand, with close to 600 active members. This new accomplishment was the result of various tailored event platforms and insightful seminars during the year. GTCC activities brought in an additional 93 new member companies to the German-Thai business community.

In order to facilitate new members and establish a firm rapport in this business community, GTCC successfully introduced two new membership activities: the GTCC New Member Orientation Programme and the GTCC Cluster Meetings. Aimed at helping new members to get the most out of GTCC membership, the orientation programme provides them with an exchange platform, plus a comprehensive overview of GTCC services and membership benefits. The GTCC cluster meetings, on the other hand, serve members in each selected industry with a professional closed-group discussion. The logistic and transport cluster group was the first to exchange their perspectives on the business impacts and strategies for dealing with challenges and issues for upcoming year.

1.3. Consultancy Services The Consultancy Services Department supports the entry of clients to the Thai, German and Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) markets through its various services that are flexible and tailor-made to suite specific needs. 7.3. Testimonials from GTDEE partners

“More than 26 years ago, Mercedes-Benz started its dual education programme at the Thonburi Automobile Assembly Plant with support from GTZ and the Ministry of Education. In 1999, Mercedes-Benz (Thailand) continued the programme with the Ministry of Education and with support from our head office in Germany.

“In 2014, we signed an MoU with GTCC for a Joint Vocation Programme in Automotive Mechatronic Training. More than 600 qualified technicians have been trained to support our after-sales service network and we expect to produce about 50-70 qualified technicians per year from 2015 onwards. It is vital that we continue to invest in the future of our products and brand by ensuring that we have the right calibre of service technicians on board – in all areas of our business – to meet and, indeed, exceed the expectations of our customers.

This programme is a guarantee for students as they will earn a high vocational certificate and our excellence certificate at the completion of the programme.”

Mr. Michael Grewe, President and CEO, Mercedes Benz (Thailand) Ltd.

“Working together for a brighter future, GTDEE is a sustainable educational platform for practical and theoretical training. Our objective is not only to strengthen Thailand’s future workforce, but also to develop a benchmark in the dual vocational training programme together with our founding partners.”

Mr. Matthias Pfalz, President, BMW (Thailand).

“Launched in June 2013, the Bosch Mechatronics Apprenticeship Programme has reached the midway point of its inaugural two-year apprenticeship programme. Moving into their second year, the apprentices will expand their skill sets and deepen their organisational knowledge through job rotation opportunities across various functions.

“All around the world, the Bosch apprenticeship programme has been a proven success for more than a century to groom talent. We are confident that our programme in Thailand will raise the bar for industry standards, and the skills of our local talent.”

Joseph Hong, Managing Director, Robert Bosch Ltd.

“GTDEE vocational education provides companies with a recruitment and retention tool that delivers the skilled employees needed in their businesses, which, in turn, makes for successful employees and companies in Thailand.”

Mr. Bill McClean, Director, Grohe Siam (Thailand).
