Minnie Davis was crowned 19 3 9 football queen, and elected "Field Kindley Smile Girl." Minnie also was named "Best Citi­zen of the senior class."

The senior yearbook committee consisted of Lillian Plattner, Shirley Grigg, Mazzie Lane, Vivian Zimmerman, and Donald Perkins.

Betty Mahaney and Darrell Fiebach were elected cheerleaders for the 1939-1940 school term. Mary West was an outstand­ing member of the Kindley debate team.

Marvin Dungan and Beverly Bohan were chosen drum majors of the Kindley Band and Drum Corps respectively. Beverly also was editor of the Tornado Times and Twister.

Class of 1941 Scores Successes zn Social, Dramatic, and Entertainment Fields

More than 3 50 strong, the class of 1941 has made many contributions to all phases of school life at Field Kindley. The Juniors scored a dramatic and financial hit with the presentat:on of "Spring Fever," thereby assuring the seniors another junior-senior ban::ruet, which was the high-light of the year's

social calendar.

For two years the class of 1941 has elected a carnival king and queen to rule over the school's tun festival. In 193 9 Emma Jane Staton and Clarence

Ellis were so honored. Th:s year Jeanne Ellen Tournay and Clarence were the successful nominees.

Individ:.tal talent abounds in the junior class, and members of the group have appeared frequently on assembly programs. The class is well repre­sented in such organizations as the Drum Corps, Tornado Tillies, debate teams,

athletic teams, and school clubs.

Underclassmen Show Promise of Making Their Mark tn All Departments of School Life

With an enrollment of 376, the class of 1942 entered Field Kindley in the fall of 193 9 with the determination to succeed and make a name for itself. Miss Carrie Weaver was named sponsor of the group.

At the end of the first semester, the sophomores received public recogni­tion for having more members of the class on the honor roll than either of the other classes. Again the class was lauded, when Kitty Karns' essay on "How to Become a Better Citizen" was adjudged a county-wide contest winner.

Many members of the class participate in the extra-curricular activities of the school. and talented members appear often on the programs of numerous civic and school functions.

Dunbar Club Sponsors Variety Of Activities

Club for Negro Students Supports a Full Program of Outstanding Musical,

Dramatic, and Social Projects During the Year 1939-1940

The Dunbar Club is an organization com­posed of the colored students of Field Kindley Memorial High School. The purpose of this club is to promote the social interest, activities, and general welfare of the colored students of Field Kindley High School.

The first meeting of the Dunbar Club was in the middle of October, with Olga Jewel Davis presiding. The meeting was in the form of a party with entertainment and refreshments. The following officers were elected: president, Sylenthus Hunigan; vice-president, Henry Wil­liams; secretary, Elizabeth Briley; sergeant of arms, Rudolph Anderson; student representa­tive, Olga J. Davis; alternate, Booker Medlock. The sponsors of the Dunbar Club are Miss Carrie Weaver, Miss Dorothy Brophy, and Ralph Pate.

At the second meeting of the Dunbar Club, the president appointed a program committee

composed of Mable McKinney, Gladys McFar­land, Geneva Hooks, and Jerry Austin. Othel Watkins submitted the club motto, "We do our best, and nothing less." The Dunbar Club held its regular meeting the middle of each month.

The club's dramatic production of the year was a three-act play entitled "No Men Wanted." The cast included Henry Williams, Olga Davis, Percy Briley, Mable McKinney, Jessie Belle Kieth, Servanious Mitchell, Gladys McFarland, Betty Jean Thompson, Ruby Lee Ellis, Mary Hunigan, and Othel Watkins.

The Dunbar Chorus, under the direction of Clair Mills, presented an assembly program March 8.

"Harlem Review" was the club's contribution to the all-school carnival. The club's out­standing social event was the annu'll junior­senior banquet May 4.

Columbus game. Held prosperous Christmas card sale. Held Christmas party. Gave a party in honor of the Independence pep club before the

Coffeyville- Independence basketball game. Attended the Coffeyville-Columbus game. Attended the Coffeyville-Parsons game. Entertained by Chanute pep club before the game. Gave demonstrat:on between halves at Coffeyville Ft. Scott game. Attended the Regional Tournament at Fredonia.

Ushered at the senior play, junior play, and band concert. Presented special Tillie assembly. Presented the school with a gift.
