Scholarship Eligibility
To be eligible for scholarship, an applicant must:
be a Filipino citizen be a Grade 6 pupil at the time of application not be older than 14 years upon enrolment in AUGUST of the next
school year pass the audition and written examination be physically and mentally fit
Documents Required
Fully accomplished PHSA Scholarship Application Form Photocopy of Birth Certificate issued by the NSO Photocopy of Grade 5 or Grade 6 Report Card One page resume citing accomplishments in the art field of interest
Audition Requirements
Creative Writing
Portfolio of at least 10 works (poems, short stories, essays, playsand/or comics)
Short bond paper and writing materials (pencil, ballpen)
Ballet
Complete ballet outfit Soft shoes and pointe shoes for girls who are en pointe Music stored in USB/Flash Drive, or Mobile phone for prepared dance
Prepared 1 minute dance
Folk Dance Prepared dance number. Other Genre (Hiphop, Modern, Ballroom)
also acceptable Music stored in USB/Flash Drive, or Mobile phone for prepared dance
Proper outfit:Girls: Knee length loose skirt and sleeveless blouseBoys: Slim fit shirt or sando and shorts or pants
Theatre Arts One (1) 3-minute solo stage performance piece in English One (1) 3-minute solo stage performance piece in Filipino One (1) 3 to 5-minute movement piece and song Extra shirt
Visual Arts
Portfolio (at least 10 works) in digital format (jpeg) in CD or DVD Five (5) oslo papers, pencils (preferably 3B and 6B pencils), any
coloring materials preferred by applicants (watercolor, colored pen-cils, pastels, colored pentels, crayons)
Music
Applicants must send a video recording of themselves performingtheir audition requirements, to be received by the PHSA not less
than 15 days before the live audition date.
Each audition piece may be uploaded to YouTube separately, or sentin a CD/video format (Uploading to YouTube is highly recommended
to avoid defective materials. Indicate link address and/or filename.)
Before performing each piece, the applicant must state his/her name,title of the piece and the composer. Applicant’s whole body must bevisible while performing.
Applicants will be notified by phone whether or not they are qualifiedto proceed to live auditions.
The School
The Philippine High School for the Arts (PHSA) is a government - run secondary school for artis-tically talented children. It implements a special secondary education curriculum aimed at train-ing and honing future artists and cultural lead-ers. Aside from academic and artistic training, PHSA provides students with opportunities to develop their social skills, contributing to their development as artists for others.
Search Objective
PHSA screens applicants yearly to identify and
give scholarships to artistically talented children all over the Philippines. Applicants go through audition process under the supervision of audi-tion masters to determine their skills and talent.
Curriculum
The Basic Education subjects prescribed by the Department of Education are in the PHSA K12 curriculum. These subjects are handled distinc-tively in support of specialized studies for artistic expressions in the following disciplines:
Creative Writing: Fiction, Poetry, Playwriting,
Creative Nonfiction, Graphic Literature
Dance (Ballet): Classical Ballet, Modern

Dance (Folk Dance): Philippine Folk Dance,
Dance Composition and Staging
Music: Solo Voice/ Solo Instrument, Music
Theory, Chamber Music and Music Performance

ment
Visual Arts: Visual Perception, Sculpture, Art

Voice applicant requirements:Perform the following from memory: • One (1) Italian song from the anthology of Italian songs of the 17th
and 18th centuries OR any foreign classical song • One (1) kundiman or any Filipino classic piece (e.g. Abelardo’sNasaan ka Irog? or Mutya ng Pasig; Santiago’s Ano Kaya ang Ka-palaran?; Estrella’s Ang Maya; San Pedro’s Ugoy ng Duyan
Guitar applicant requirements: • One (1) piece from the Renaissance or Baroque period• One (1) piece from the Classical period• One (1) piece from the Romantic period or later
Piano applicant requirements: Perform the following from memory: • Scales and arpeggios in at least three (3) octaves• One (1) etude (choose from among the following: Carl Czerny
School of Velocity Opus 299 or 740; Johann Baptist Cramer ShortStudies Opus 100; Ignaz Moschelle’s Etudes or Moritz Moskowski15 Etudes of Velocity Opus 70)
• Johann Sebastian Bach’s Two or Three-Part Invention OR Well-Tempered Clavier Band I or II (Prelude and Fugue)
• One (1) complete Sonatina by Clementi, Kuhlau, or Dussek ORone (1) complete sonata by Haydn, Mozart or Beethoven
• One (1) romantic piece by Schumann, Schubert, Chopin, Beetho-ven, Tchaikovsky or Mendelssohn
• One (1) piece by a Filipino composer• One (1) contemporary piece by Debussy, Bartok, Prokofieff, de
Falla, or Ravel
