The successful 3rd Annual LNG Transport, Handling and Storage Forum 2013 which took place on 27-29 May 2013 at Padma Resort Bali, Indonesia attracted over 157 delegates. The main host sponsor is PT Bayu Buana Gemilang (BBG) while other major sponsors and exhibitor include PT Energasindo Heksa Karya (ENERGAS), GTT, PT Jababeka Tbk, PT Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI),

This business-critical forum is hosted by both Allevents Group Pte Ltd and Geo Energi Magazine.

This 3-Day event is an annual meeting point for the Natural Gas and LNG stakeholders – both domestic and regional – to network, build relationships with key stakeholders and drive the region’s Natural Gas Industry forward. The main focus of the 2013 forum pertains to LNG infrastructure, notably Small Scale LNG and LNG shipping, opening up enormous opportunities to tap into Indonesia’s island-rich landscape.

Two much-sought after workshops were conducted prior to the main conference. The first entitled “Reviewing and Choosing Marine Options for Small Scale LNG: Considering the Application and Business Case” was conducted by Alexander Harsema-Mensonides, Senior Engineer Business Development at MARINE SERVICE GMBH. Alexander is a renowned expert on LNG and has over 20 years’ experience on small scale LNG, LNG shipping and floating LNG.

Tony Regan, Principal Consultant at TRI-ZEN INTERNATIONAL PTE LTD conducted another workshop entitled “Small-Scale LNG: Overview, Economics and Applications”. Tony has over 25 years of experience on LNG, much of it gained during years with Shell International and more recently with Nexant where he was a Principal responsible for their gas practice in Asia.

The main conference was opened by Mr. Rubijanto Siswosoemarto, Chairman of Strategic Analyst Council at the INDONESIAN STATE INTELLIGENCE AGENCY.

The main keynote was by Ir. Susilo Siswo Utomo,Vice Minister of MINISTRY OF ENERGY & MINERAL RESOURCES. Mr Susilo addressed the audience on the energy outlook for Indonesia, notably detailing on the natural gas sector and LNG.

His keynote speech was followed by Dr. Ir. Andy Noorsaman Sommeng, Head of BPH MIGAS. BPH Migas is the regulatory body for downstream oil and gas in Indonesia. Dr. Andy gave a comprehensive update on the government’s plans and activities pertaining to downstream infrastructure for natural gas. The third keynote speaker – representing PT PGN – was Mr. Nisi Setyobudi, President Director of PGN LNG. He gave insights and status updates on existing and upcoming LNG projects.

One of the forum key sponsors took center stage next. Mr.Gatot M. Soewondo, President Director, BANK NEGARA INDONESIA (BNI) addressed the audience by emphasizing BNI willingness, ability and capability to support Indonesia’s thriving LNG industry.

Three important topics were presented after the coffee break. SKK MIGAS - Indonesia’s upstream Oil and Gas regulator – was represented by Mr. Widhyawan Prawira Atmaja, SKK Migas’s Deputy Chairman for Commercial Management. Mr Widhyawan gave a comprehensive presentation on “Boosting Domestic Gas Production To Meet Increasing Demand”.

Another important presentation on “Gas Infrastructure Development Blueprint to Enhance Gas Connectivity in Indonesia” was presented by another representative of the downstream Oil and Gas regulator. The presentation was given by Dr. Qoyum Tjandranegara, Committee Member of BPH MIGAS. To close the morning session, Total E&P Indonesie presented an important upstream topic on “Bridging Indonesia’s Gas Demand and Supply Gap”. A timely topic – Mr. Rakhmad Dewanto, Head of Domestic Sales, TOTAL E&P INDONESIE – presented to the audience TOTAL’s outlook and its role to bridge the supply gap.

The next key presenter is from PT Nusantara Regas, the owner of the first FSRU in Indonesia. Mr. Hendra Jaya, President Director of PT NUSANTARA REGAS gave the audience updates on the project’s current status and future plan. This project sets a landmark for LNG progression in Indonesia.

One of the event’s key sponsors presented on “Storage Solutions For Small-Mid Scale LNG Carriers”, a timely topic given the high interest from the local LNG industry to utilize small scale carriers to store and distribute LNG to remote markets in Indonesia. Mr. Stéphane Maillard, Business Development Manager of GAZTRANSPORT & TECHNIGAZ (GTT) gave a comprehensive presentation on the above topic mentioned.

Day One was capped off by an interesting and topical panel session entitled “Outlook Of LNG For Indonesia: What Role Can It Play To Bridge The Increasing Demand Gap?”. Led by renowned expert Tony Regan, the panelist discussed the theme with the audience effectively. The panelist include Mr. Stéphane Maillard, Business Development Manager of GAZTRANSPORT & TECHNIGAZ (GTT), Mr. Hendra Jaya, President Director of PT NUSANTARA REGAS and Mr. Teguh Setiawan, Managing Director of PT JABABEKA / BEKASI POWER.

He presented on “Meet Increasing Domestic Demand with LNG: Pertamina’s Role And Goals”. His presentation was followed by the major buyer of natural gas in Indonesia. Mr. Suryadi Mardjoeki, Head of Gas and Fuel Oil Division of PT PLN. He presented on a topic entitled “Bridging The Energy Demand Gap In Indonesia With Natural Gas And LNG: A Power Generation Perspectives”.

Mr. Thomas Suhartanto, Vice President – Business Development, PT. PERTAMINA GAS took the podium next with a topic entitled “Integrating Natural Gas Infrastructure To Markets: Challenges & Opportunities”.

The two presenters were Mr. Darmansyah Tanamas, Vice President – Liquid, Natural Gas and Offshore Transportation from INDONESIA NATIONAL SHIP OWNERS’ ASSOCIATION followed by Mr. Theo Lekatompessy, President Director of PT HUMPUSS INTERMODA TRANSPORTASI.

After lunch, Mr. Giulio Tirelli, Director 4-stroke Portfolio & Applications of WARTSILA gave an interesting presentation on “Utilizing LNG As Marine Fuel: Justifying The Cost And Benefits” followed by the one important presentation topic on financing by Mr. Suharta Wijaya, Deputy Division Head Corporate Banking of BANK NEGARA INDONESIA (BNI).

A case study presentation on SMALL SCALE LNG PLANT UTILIZATION IN THAILAND was presented by Mr. Methar Thongma, Manager - NGV Business & Product Development Division,Natural Gas Vehicle Business & Gas Business Unit of PTT PUBLIC COMPANY LIMITED. Thailand has already ran a small scale LNG Plant and it served as a good case study application for Indonesia to follow suit. Last but not least Mr. Alexander Harsema-Mensonides closed the event with another small scale LNG related topic on “Choosing Marine Options for Small Scale LNG”

Overall it was a successful and well attended event with many networking opportunities and a neutral platform fully utilized for business-to-business meetings among key stakeholders in the LNG industry
