SPIC MACAY Established by Dr. Kiran Seth in 1977 at IIT Delhi. The Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music And Culture Amongst Youth, often known by its initials (SPIC MACAY), is a voluntary youth movement which promotes Indian classical music, Indian classical dance, and other aspects of Indian culture; It seeks to foster the exchange of traditional Indian values and to generate awareness about the cultural traditions and heritage of India. In order to achieve its goals, SPICMACAY organizes concerts, lectures, demonstrations, informal discussions, and seminars. These are hosted by local chapters of the organiza-

tion. To introduce the students to rich cultural and musical heritage of India ,a short programme of classical instrumental music was or-ganized by Spic Macay under the aegis of Delhi Public School, Jodhpur. With Sarwar Hussain on tabla , the sarangi maestro Mr. Hanif Hussain introduced the audience to the structure and the specialities of sarangi. To enrich the students’ general awareness, he shared that sarangi which was primarily known as sau rangi is not so difficult to play. Starting from Raag Nat Bhairav, he effec-tively played the, bhajan ‘vaishnav jan to tene kahiye’ based on raag Khamaj. Keeping students’ interest in mind he also played a song from movie Gadar—’ood ja kale kaga’, which was based on Raag Khamaaj. The performance really elevated the senses of the audience to a different realm. At last vote of thanks was given by headmistress Ms Anvita Kackar . As a token of love and gratitude the mementoes were given to the guest artists.

“Sound has a profound effect on the senses. It can be both heard and felt. It can even be seen with the mind’s eye. It can almost be tasted and smelled. Sound can evoke responses of the five senses.”

An introductory workshop on ‘Phonetics’ was conducted for the English teachers of DPS Jodhpur. The resource person was Mr. Naveen Kalla. He emphasized that speaking English is not a big task but speaking English with correct pronunciation and with fluency should be the main point of focus. By learning phonic sounds students will be able to read and spell the words according to the sounds of letters. He talked about 44 sounds (along with symbols) of English language. Many audio and video clippings were incorporated to make the concepts more clear. He also talked about the difference between American and British English. He cited example of one of the schools in Takahtgarh in Rajasthan as to how they have been benefited by such a workshop. He reverberated the importance of pronunciation in the world of mass communication and for the students going abroad for jobs. He also quoted that we Indians are fortunate enough in terms of sounds in comparison to the western countries. It was a short, informative and really useful workshop.

MOTHER—THE TRUE GOD Mother, the word itself describes an incredible pulchritudinous force of emotions, affection, godli-ness, ravishment and exquisiteness. In my sense, mother is the only ‘God’ that is greater than any God that you have read in any book. She is the one which can make even the worst hell to the best heaven, through a power that can’t be understood by the Gods, an affection that can’t be understood by Aphro-dite, Hathor or Rati could understand. She's truly a 'God'.

SAVE WATER Water, the second name of life. It plays an important role in our life. Without it nobody can live. Think about a world without water. Not even a single drop to drink, wash, bath etc!!! . We all know that we can’t live without water. Then why do we waste it? I feel very bad when some of the boys of my school fill their bottles from water cooler and do not close it. It is a very bad habit. We don’t bother about minor things like closing taps while brushing, use bucket instead of shower to take bath etc and that is only the reason why disaster happens. Everything is not finished now but it can be in few years. So SAVE WATER SAVE FUTURE
