Maria Luz Montero Sistiaga won the ASML Master thesis prize 2015
Soultan Al Halifa was awarded a postdoctoral fellowship from the WHRI-ACADEMY for the period of
October 1, 2015 through September 30, 2016 on the topic of ‘Synthesis and characterization of
cholesterol end-capped PEG-SAP hydrogel scaffolds for tissue engineering’. His supervisors for the
project are Prof. Jennifer Patterson from MTM and Prof. Wim De Borggraeve from the Department of
Chemistry.
Toray Chair for Fundamental Research in Composite Materials prolonged till 2018.
MTM and research• Awards CMG involved in two JEC Innovation Awards
Contributions were made to the EU FP-7 Biobuild External Wall Panel demonstrator, which was
chosen in the category “Building and Construction”.
The CMG also contributed to the new water-insensitive polyester accelerator technology from Akzo
Nobel, which won in the category “Resin Materials”.
Jennifer Patterson was selected by the European Commission, DG R&I to be a ‘visual testimonial’
for non-European researchers who have come to work in the EU. This was incorporated into a booth
‘Destination Europe’ at the AAAS (American Association for the Advancement of Science) meeting in
San Jose, USA, in February 2015.
At the Society of Women Engineers’ WE Europe conference in Amsterdam, The Netherlands in May
2015, Jennifer Patterson received a certificate of appreciation in recognition of her ‘generous
commitment of time and dedication to expanding the mission of the Society to women engineers
around the world’.

We all together at MTM ....
So that we can secure
The department for high level “academic education”,
“research” and “services” in material science and
engineering.
A department that recrutes “world wide” and is a renowned
institution.
It’s good to be at MTM !
