Annotation of non-music magazine using forms and conventionsChris Hemsworth, GQ AustraliaThis Australian edition of GQ magazine features actor Chris Hemsworth who is known for playing Thor so he will have a large fan base, therefore more people such as his fans will want to purchase the magazine.

GQ is predominantly focused on the target audience of young males so they have used Hemsworth as the model as he is seen as an inspiration to get fit which is reinforced by his pose.

His pose with his hands on the back of his head highlights his muscles without trying too hard which may appeal to all genders which widens their audience. This may countertype the stereotype because many models for GQ and Vogue reveal a lot of skin to attract more readers whereas the model is not.

The model is in a black and white filter and he is not looking at the camera which provides a sense of distance as he is not being intimate with the camera but still has a powerful effect in the image.

The ImageThe MastheadThe GQ masthead uses different colours for certain issues and because GQ are celebrating their Men of the year issue they used gold for the masthead alongside many other features on the cover to make it look professional. The gold and bold lettering conveys the magazines significance and being a winner as they are promoting Chris Hemsworth as their ultimate man of the year.

Australia is inside the GQ which portrays the magazines success worldwide as they have different covers and articles for diverse countries. As they have editions for several countries, the magazine has most likely specifically used Australian actor Hemsworth to be on the cover for Australia which may appeal to Australian audiences more as he may share the readers origin.

The image of the model is overlapping the masthead giving the image a more three dimensional effect and despite the masthead being overlapped; it still remains recognisable to viewers because it is a well known logo.

The Anchorage is usually located at the top or bottom of a magazine cover which captures the audiences attention more as oppose to it being around the image. The anchorage demonstrates to the reader what will be included inside the magazine as it is seen as a sneak peak of what is to come.

10th Anniversary is seen as very important in the magazine industry and appeals to viewers of both sexes because the models they have chosen usually have a varied fan base. The font is capitalised and spread out to signify that this edition is special.

The AnchorageThe Tag LineTag lines are significant features on magazine covers because they explain further of who is featured in the magazine and what is inside which goes with the conventions of tag lines because people usually read them after the masthead.

The tag line is reasonably small compared to other features on the cover which is breaking the conventions. The reasoning behind this is that the tag line is Chris Hemsworth and it is small because the magazine company are confident that readers will already know of the star and therefore do not need to identify him.

Man of the year is even smaller which portrays that the magazine has made it equitably obvious that Hemsworth is the Man of the year because he is the star of the cover and his autograph is overlapping the image displaying his importance and demonstrating he is the winner.

The puff is placed on the cover to stand out and is conventionally located in a shape. In the case of GQ, they have used a golden puff to match the golden theme of the cover with 60 page special which provides the readers with an idea of what is inside.

The PuffUnderneath the puff is a list of celebrities also featured in the magazine as part of the special to attract more readers as the celebrities included may bring a larger audience to buy this edition. The word special may make the reader feel important and deserving of the magazine and it also conveys that specials are unique and not featured in every magazine.
