About Bangalore Institute of Technology

Bangalore Institute of Technology was

established in the year 1979 in august

with the auspices of the Vokkaligara

Sangha. The vision of the institute has

been to establish and develop the

institute as a c entre of higher learning,

ever abreast with the expanding

horizon of knowledge in the field of

engineering and technology. The

institute offers courses in nine

disciplines and has been one of the top

five colleges under the Viswesvaraiah

Technological University. Bangalore

Institute of Technology is the most

sought after colleges from CET and COMED-K qualified students and its strength of 3000 odd students

speaks the same. It has well qualified faculty with vast experience in industry and research.

BIT is one of the pioneering institutes that provide career guidance and placement facilities to students.

Several companies have recruited BITians and it is a pride that the students of BIT are spread all over the

world holding important positions as engineers and technologists.

BIT has an active SAEBIT Collegiate club. Currently the club participates in three major SAE events. Effi-

Cycle, BAJA , FSAE.

Team Stratos 2010 won the “Best Design Report” and also came also came 2nd in BIAE University ATV

Challenge.

Team FIREhawks participated in Effi – Cycle 2011 and won the “Best Design Award”

The Collegiate clubs motto is “Adding Essence to Engineering” and strives in providing its members

extensive exposure in the field of automotive research.

A Note from the Principal

Education is primarily of two types: Formal and

Self-Taught. Formal wherein it focuses on mark

scoring and bookish knowledge while Self-Taught

is through experiences. As the principal of this

prestigious institution, it has been my never

dying endeavor to help students gain the rich

experience of self-learning; and channelize them

in the right direction.

The role of shaping the modern world that is being played by engineers can hardly be exaggerated. Hence, the ultimate of any distinguished technical educational institution should be to promote a multifaceted development of students.

The present day corporate recruiters not only seek engineers with diverse employ mix, but also excellent theoretical and practical talents embedded with well-developed soft skills.

We are one of the most developed countries in the world in the field of basic sciences and technology and are moving ahead into the field of education and technology. It is therefore necessary for us to work on some major projects on science and technology which have relevance to the nation’s need and will be a milestone in tomorrow’s advance technology.

SAE-BIT Collegiate Club has been actively participating and bringing fame to the institution through SAE events like BAJA, FSAE, Effi-Cycle etc. These competitions have enhanced the all-round development of an engineering student and made him competent to take on the challenges of life. It is a matter of honour and pride for the college to be hosting this year’s edition of the prestigious Virtual BAJA-2012.

I wish the best to all the participating teams and hope that they successfully cross the hurdle and qualify for the Final BAJA-2013 event.

Visiting Bangalore

The progressive and modern city of Bangalore is the state capital, being located within India's Karnataka

state. Many things that are considered to be 'taboo' and off‐limits in India have become acceptable in

Bangalore, offering a refreshing and more relaxed atmosphere than other nearby cities.

Founded at the beginning of the 16th century, Bangalore is often referred to as the country 'Garden

City', due to its high concentration of parks and green spaces.

Bangalore by Air

Bangalore International Airport is 38 km away from Bangalore Institute of Technology. It costs Rs 700 by

taxi. Pre-paid taxi facilities are available in Airport. Also, air‐conditioned Volvo buses connect the airport

to various locations in the city, which shall not cost more than Rs 250. More information for the same is

available on the BIAL website. Bangalore airport is well connected to almost all airports in India.

Bangalore by Train

Bangalore Majestic (6 kms from BIT), Bangalore Cantonment (8.1 kms from BIT)) and Yeshwanthpur (10

km away from BIT) are the three main stations in Bangalore. Bangalore Majestic is connected to all

major cities in India. Auto‐rickshaws taxis and city buses are all available from near the stations.

Bangalore by Bus

KSRTC buses connect all cities in the state to Bangalore. Many super deluxe bus services are available

from Bangalore to Hyderabad, Cochin, Trivandrum, Chennai, Mumbai, Goa and Mysore. The major bus

terminal is the Majestic Bus Terminus, 6 kms from BIT. Auto‐rickshaws taxis and city buses are all

available from near the bus station.

12

Climate

The climate in Bangalore is strongly affected by its elevated position, being some 950 meters / 3,117

feet above sea level. As a result of this setting, Bangalore is lucky enough to experience favorable

weather throughout the year. The temperatures in August shall be between 18 C to 27 C. A

jacket/sweater is always advisable for the cold evenings!

Food & Dining

Bangalore is heaven for food lovers. You can taste exotic varieties of dishes ranging from traditional and

heritage food to Chinese and Continental. You can also find incredible variety of sea food in Bangalore.

Rice is the staple food of here with coconut being main ingredient in almost every dish. Bangalorean

food is non-greasy with most of the dishes prepared by steaming or roasting. Rice is generally served

with Hulli or Sambhar that is a thick delicious soup with vegetables.

There are a variety of restaurants in Bangalore that will serve you with dishes that are traditional as well

as exotic. You can try simple food at some of the local idli shops. Some of the restaurants may not serve

you with cutlery as Bangaloreans eat with their hands.
