Isabella was born in 1797 in new york. her family members were slaves and then when she was 7, her parents died and she was sold to a different family.

sojourner truth tried to escape from slavery. When she was out of slavery she married Thomas. She was 14 years old. They had 5 children.

a Few years later she got caught and was returned to her owner. she was separated from her husband and children.

sojourner truth fought for equal rights, even though she was a slave. she also wanted equal rights for women. she wanted to end slavery. she made speeches. People listened to her because she was a slave and it made sense to them that people should have equal rights.

in 1827 new york freed all slaves. so sojourner became free.

when slavery ended in new york, she changed her name to sojourner truth and her name means to traveller, strong and brave + truthful.

She found her husband and they found 4 of their children. One of their sons was still a slave. She went to talk to a judge to free him. She was the first African-American woman to go to

court.

she wrote a book about her life story. president Abraham Lincoln signed her book. she died in 1883.

One thing I learned from Sojourner Truth is that you should never judge people by the way they look or the

color of their skin.

This Person is a changemaker because:

1.she helped stop slavery.2.she fought for equal rights.

3.she aiso changes some law in new york.

My Changemaker is connected to Harriet TUbman because They were both slaves that tried to help end slavery.

a changemaker is someone who can make a change for the future such as no more slavery and

equal rights.

slavery is when someone owns you and you have to work for them.

emancipated is another word for free.

master is someone who is in charge of you and tells you what to do. He doesn't always treat you nicely.
