    - How do you relate the poster to the band? Is there some kind ofidentifying trade mark?

Introduce the lesson and the project expectations. Go through assessment with students. Go through brief demonstration of the assignment. Students will gather the

following information as they follow along:

    - Creating new PSD- Creating background- Moving files

    - Adding Text- Using Color Adjustment- Rotating /resizing image-Using brushes -downloading special plug-ins

    Development & Procedure: (Day 2 and 3)

    1. Students will have picked an image of a musical artist from last class period. The image issaved to their folder.

    2. Have students create a new Photoshop document, saving it as "YournameFlyer".Document must be 8.5" by 11".

    3. Show students how to add a solid color or pattern to the background.

    4. Hand out printed tutorials, if not done already. Students should be able to follow it, as theyhave knowledge already from last class period and from previous lessons. If students have

questions to refresh their memory, I will demonstrate on overhead.

    5. As they work, remind them of the requirements. This is important so they feel continual

guidance, and so that theyre not in the dark.

    6. Once finished, they should go over checklist and then send to me via digital drop box. Iwill print out as I receive them.

If a student has finished early, they can create an advertising flyer for a school event. Have themask the office if there are any events occurring soon that may need advertising or if there is any

    thing added to school newsletter.

Closure: Printed out documents will be placed on board for class discussion.

Ask students what they felt was their favorite aspect of their piece, and what mayve neededmore work? How does the posters design go with the choice of band?

How can the computer be used to create flyers for events?

Homework: On Day 1, students must try to pick a musical artist for their project or they canthink it over at home. There is no actual homework handed in, just continual observation and

    engagement during the classroom.

Assessment: Students are graded on class participation and behavior as well as on their final

project. They are given the below rubric.

Checklist: 20 Points Possible (2.5 each)

____ Image of the artist is bigger than 300 by 300 pixels.

    ____ Poster Image is 8.5" by 11".

____ Solid background layer and/or pattern.____ Use of color adjustment is demonstrated.

____ Text that is harmonious with the flyer.

____ Text is 36 pts or larger.____ Doc. is saved as "Your NameFlyer"

    ____ Overall completion and craftsmanship.

    Teacher Reflection:

    1. When creating practice files for this project, I realized that specific layering can createconfusion. Also, lasso tools sometimes dont highlight the image to the exact

measurements. This can be corrected by using the eraser/brush to take away excess areas.

Making sure you Deselect after you lasso or select image is also important and

    sometimes tedious.

    2. I anticipate my students will find the design aspect of the poster to be somewhat trying.

Starting with a blank canvas can be intimidating; hence the visuals shown in thebeginning of the class could be helpful. Adding text to the piece can sometimes be

confusing, as its another layer to try to manage. During the demonstration, I will bring

this up, and show students how to manage layers by naming them.

    3. To manage the classroom, I will make sure there is a structured environment. Rules on

respecting the lab and especially each other will be posted at each computer. If a studentis absent, I will have the PowerPoint available to view online and a handout given to the

student. If they need extra aid, I can place them by a more advanced student. This couldalso help the slower, more frustrated student. If the student needs extra attention, I will

place them by my desk. Furthermore, if the student is distracting me from the rest of the

class, I can address the problem by discussing it with the whole class. Ex: // Does anyonehave an answer for Tashas question?

    4. If a student is absent, they will have the handouts and PowerPoint that is available. There are also other lab hours the student can attend. For students who finish early, they

may create a flyer for a school event, or they may play educational games, from sites that

I have already approved. I will direct them further. For students with special needs, they

may get a simplified lesson plan. The poster can include text, photo and background. Thechild will be graded on effort and ability to listen.
