%uring the five brief years between of &'(" and &'() C*, the famous *li+abethanscholar and mystic %r. ohn %ee recorded a new and mysterious language in his private

ournals. According to %ees records, this was the Tongue of Angels- as we see

mentioned by /t. 0aul in & Corinthians &12&. 3ith the help of a medium known as /ir

*dward 4elley, %ee performed a series of evocations of Angelic intelligences who

endeavored to teach the men their Celestial /peech. The result was a book entitled

Loagaeth 5the 6/peech From 7od68 written in the enigmatic language, with very few

words translated9 forty-eight poems written in the same language, with full translations9

and several words and phrases scattered throughout %ees ournals, some with

translations and some without.

%uring their very first meeting, %ee learned that 4elley had a knack for

mediumship that he himself lacked. %ee performed an invocation to bring Angels into

his mystical shewstone, and 4elley was able to see, hear and speak to the Angels with

ease. Thereafter, the two men formed a years-long partnership dedicated to a series of

Angelic seances. The seances effectively ended by &'(), and the two men went their

separate ways by &'(# C*. The ournals have survived loss, fire and other perils for four

hundred years, waiting for us to discover the linguistic primers left by the Angels through

%ee and 4elley.

:ot only did the Angels claim this was the native Tongue of Angels, it was also

the original language of *den, with which Adam named all things in e;istence. The

...whereby even as the mind of man is moved at an ordered speech, and is easily persuaded in

things that are true, so are the creatures of 7od stirred up in themselves, when they hear the words

wherewithal they were nursed and brought forth2 For nothing moveth, that is not persuaded2

neither can any thing be persuaded that is unknown. The Creatures of 7od understand you not,

you are not of their Cities2 you are become enemies, because you are separated from him that

7overneth the City by ignorance.

[Adam$ in his Creation, being made an !nnocent, was also authori+ed and made partaker of the

0ower and /pirit of 7od2 whereby he not only did know all things under his Creation and spoke of

them properly, naming them as they were2 but also was partaker of our presence and society, yea a

speaker of the mysteries of 7od9 yea, with 7od himself2 so that in innocency the power of his

partakers with 7od, and us his good Angels, was e;alted, and so became holy in the sight of 7od

until [Adam$ lost the 7arden of felicity, the udgment of his understanding. ut not utterly the

favour of 7od, and was driven forth 5as your scriptures record8 unto the *arth which was coveredwith brambles.

3here being dumb, and not able to speak, he began to learn of necessity the <anguage which

thou, *dward 4elley, callest2 [&2 =ebrew$. And, yet, not that ["2 =ebrew$ amongst you. !n the

which he uttered and delivered unto his posterity, the nearest knowledge he had of his Creatures.

And from his own self divided his speech into three parts, twelve, three, and seven2 the number

whereof remaineth, but the true forms and pronunciations want9 and therefore is not of that force

that it was in his own dignity, much less to be compared with this that we deliver, which Adam

verily spake in innocency, and was never uttered nor disclosed to man since till now, wherein the

power of 7od must work, and wisdom in her true kind be delivered2 which are not to be spoken of

in any other thing, neither to be talked of with mans imaginations9 for as this 3ork and 7ift is of

7od, which is all power, so doth he open it in a tongue of power, to the intent that the proportions

may agree in themselves...

Thus you see the :ecessity of this Tongue2 The *;cellency of it, and the Cause why it is preferred

before that which you call =ebrew2 For it is written, *very lesser consenteth to his greater. ! trust

this is sufficient. [- A True and Faithful Relation... p. #"-1$

At the time %ee lived, =ebrew was considered the primary /acred <anguage of the 3est.

!t was a dead tongue at the time, and therefore not subect to change. !t was the language

of the >ld Testament, spoken by the 0rophets themselves, and it was thought to be the

language spoken by Angels.

3hat 7abriel suggests above is that Angelical is the true 0rimordial Tongue, the

original upon which =ebrew itself is based. y telling %ee that Angelical is preferred

before =ebrew, 7abriel is suggesting that Angelical is the true /acred <anguage of the

3est. 7iven the profound influence the so-called ?*nochian@ language has had upon

3estern occultism 5through the 7olden %awn, Thelema, :eopaganism and more8, ! feel

there is very good reason to agree that Angelical is the great 3estern /acred <anguage.

Hebrew and Angelical:

Sacred Languages of the West

The =ebrew alphabet consists of "" letters. These letters are actually transitional

between hieroglyphs and letters as we know them. Therefore, each letter represents an

entire word by itself, while also representing a phonetic sound. For e;ample, the =ebrew

word Beth means ?=ouse@ 5or Tent, %welling, etc8, but it also stands for the letter ?.@

This tends to fascinate mystics, because it means any =ebrew word 5especially names of

7od and Angels8 can be viewed as an entire sentence, and such ?sentences@ can be

analy+ed for mystical insight.

The =ebrew alphabet also predates the use of numbers as we know them. ather

than using an entirely different set of characters for numbers, the ancient !sraelites used

the letters of their alphabet. The first letter 5 Aleph8 was assigned to one, the second letter

5 Beth8 was assigned to two, and so forth. Therefore, the same mystics who read the

=ebrew names as sentences could also read them as mathematical eBuations. They

discovered obscure relationships between numbers and sacred words- known today as

Gematria or ?ible-codes.@

The "" letters of the =ebrew Alphabet are traditionally divided into groups of 1, )

and &". As outlined in the foundational abalistic te;t epher !et"irah 5the Book of

Formation8, these groups are assigned astrological correspondences. The three ?Dother

<etters@ represent the *lements Air, Fire and 3ater- which were used by 7od to create

the *arth. The seven ?%ouble <etters@ represent the 0lanets. The remaining twelve

?/imple <etters@ represent the constellations of the Eodiac. Together they represent all

of the building blocks of the physical universe. 7od creates merely by arranging and

rearranging the <etters into different %ivine 3ords.

The epher !et"irah also insists that the hieroglyphic =ebrew letters are sacred in

their proportions. !n a mystical sense, they represent the Creation of Dan. 5emember

that the letters are given astrological correspondences, and astrology assigns such

correspondences to all parts of the body.8 Therefore, when occultists use the =ebrew

Page 4: Aninymous - The Angelical Alphabet Cd3 Id296971323 Size446

letters in talismanic magick, they are encouraged to take great care in reproducing the

letters e;actly.

This was =ebrew as %ee would have seen it- through the eyes of a 3estern

mystic. 7abriel suggested that Angelical was a superior replacement for =ebrew- and he

likely meant for it to be used with the Agrippa-style occultism with which %ee was most

familiar. !t should be used in the inscription of Talismans and magickal Tools 5as we can

see throughout %ees ournals8. The Angel !llemese even echoes the epher !et"irah

where it comes to inscribing the hieroglyph-like Angelical characters2

These letters represent the Creation of man, and therefore they must be in proportion. They

represent the workmanship wherewithal the soul of man was made like unto his Creator. [- Five

<ike =ebrew- and other /emitic languages- Angelical runs from right to left. !n

the above chart, Pa 5?@8 is the first letter and Gisg  5?T@8 is the last. >f course, when we

are writing the words in *nglish transliteration, it is common practice to write them from

left to right. 5The same is done with transliterated =ebrew.8 !t is only when written in

Angelical characters that the words must run in the older right to left direction.

Another trait Angelical shares with =ebrew is the fact that each letter has both a

phonetic value and also stands as a word on its own. For instance, the letter ?%@ in

=ebrew is called &aleth- but the word &aleth also translates as ?%oor.@ The letters of

the Angelical alphabet work in a similar fashion- though with some key differences. For

instance, the Angelical letter ?%@ is called Gal , and it is certain that Gal  is a proper word

with its own translation. 5This and several other letter-names appear in the te;t of

Loagaeth as individual words.8 =owever, unfortunately, no translations for the Angelical

letter-names were ever offered.

Page 6: Aninymous - The Angelical Alphabet Cd3 Id296971323 Size446

Deanwhile, unlike =ebrew letter-names, the word Gal  does not begin with the

phonetic value of ?%.@ 5As we can see in the previous chart of the alphabet, few of the

Angelical letter-names reflect their phonetic values.  Pa K ?@, Tal  K ?D@, &ru' K ?:@,

etc.8

!n this comparisoncontrasting between =ebrew and Angelical, ! must also

mention the subect of ?Angelical Gematria.@ !t has long been assumed that Angelical

letters possess numerical values similar to =ebrew letters. This is thanks, in part, to

statements made about numbers by the Archangel 7abriel. These statements are most

often taken out of conte;t by modern scholars. For e;ample, 7abriel says, ?The <etters

are separated, and in confusion2 and, therefore, are by numbers gathered together.@ !n the

same speech, the Archangel adds, ?3here being known in number, they are easily

distinguished, so that here we teach places to be numbered.@ The student of abalistic

Gematria will find such statements familiar within their own art.

=owever, it turns out that 7abriel was not describing numbers corresponding with

the Angelical alphabet. =e was actually discussing a comple; set of numbers given with

several words in 4ey >ne 5which were added together to create ?mystical sBuare roots@8.

Those numbers are associated with the Tables of Loagaeth and the words of the 4eys, but

not with the individual characters of the alphabet.

Another hint toward an Angelical gematria rests in the 4eys themselves. /everal

of the 4eys contain numbers that are represented by letters2

 A)A#  K )L## GA K 1& OP  K ""

 AF  K &#  #AP#  K #L1# O*  K "L

 ,#O& K ()L1 OL K "M TA*  K )11L

 ,RA(  K L11" O  K &" $*  K M"

As we can see in the above list, there are always as many letters in the Angelical

as there are numbers in the translation. This suggests that these letters are not  the

Page 7: Aninymous - The Angelical Alphabet Cd3 Id296971323 Size446

Angelical words for their numbers 5as the *nglish for ?11@ is ?ThirtyThree@8. !nstead,

the letters would appear to share a one-to-one relationship with the numbers. For

instance, in the letters )LA 5M'L8- the character )  could represent M, the L might represent

', and the A represent L.

=owever, we find little consistency in this relationship between the letters and

numbers. For e;ample, note how the letter ?>@ appears to represent &, ", ', L and ) at the

same time. Also note P,RAL, which uses 0, and  < to represent L. :o one to date has

discovered the mystery behind this inconsistency.

The bottom line is that the Angels never suggested the e;istence of an Angelical

numerology or Gematria to %ee or 4elley. 3henever the men did employ such arts in

the ournals, it was always of the type found in the abalah or the works of Trithemius

and Agrippa- simply applied to the names and words revealed by the Angels.

This does not mean that an Angelical gematria does not e;ist. 5!n fact, it would

surprise me if Angelical letters did not also represent numbers, as this is a common trait

of ancient languages.8 !t only means that such a system was never mentioned by the

Angels nor 5as far as we know8 ever developed by %ee himself.

Finally, Angelical differs from =ebrew in its mystical division of letters. As there

are only "& Angelical characters, they can not be divided into 1, ) and &" like =ebrew.

!nstead, they were divided by the Angels into three eBual sets of seven. >f this three-fold

division aphael says, ?The number of perfection, one in three.@ This is likely one of

many references within %ees system to the =oly Trinity, reflected in the multiplication of

the perfect numbers seven 5the %ays of Creation8 and three 5the Trinity !tself8.

! also assume this 1;) division is intended to reflect both the ook of  Loagaeth

and the /eptarchic system- which are both based upon a seven-fold scheme. The ""

letters of the =ebrew alphabet would not mathematically ?fit@ the Angelic system

revealed to %ee and 4elley.

Hnfortunately, the Angels never provided astrological 5or any8 correspondences to

each Angelical letter, as we have for =ebrew in the epher !et"irah. 3e might note that

the Alphabet begins with the letter 66 5 Pa8- which may be taken to indicate 6eginning6

or the =ebrew Berashith 5!n the eginning8.  Berashith and the /even %ays of Creation

5i.e., the first chapter of 7enesis8 do play a vital role throughout %ees magickal system.

5:ote the Pa inscribed at each corner of the =oly Table, likely representing the four

=orns of the Altar in /olomons Temple.8

3e may also take note that the final letter of the Alphabet is 6T6 0Gisg 8-

mimicking the final letter of the =ebrew Alphabet- Tau. Tau indicates the Cross, and %ee

used the symbol of the Cross as an end-mark upon his version of the /eal of Truth.

=owever, these are strictly speculations on my part, and were not mentioned by the

Angels or %ee in his ournals.

“Before That Which You Call Hebrew”

Angelical and Agrippas !ccult "hilosoph#

%ee was a student of Agrippas occult philosophy, and it had a profound impact

upon his Angelic magick. For e;ample, consider this e;cerpt from Agrippas Third Book ,

chapter "1 5?>f the Tongue of Angels...@8- which likely inspired %ee in his work2

3e might doubt whether AngelsN, since they be pure spirits, use any vocal speech, or tongue

amongst themselves, or to us9 but that 0aul in some place saith, ?!f ! speak with the tongue of men,

or angels.@ ut what their speech or tongue is, is much doubted by many. For many think that if

they use any !diom, it is =ebrew, because that was the first of all, and came from heaven, and was

before the confusion of languages in abylon, in which the <aw was given by 7od the Father, and

the 7ospel was preached by Christ the /on, and so many >racles were given to the 0rophets by

the =oly 7host2 and seeing all tongues have, and do undergo various mutations, and corruptions,

this alone doth always continue inviolated. Doreover an evident sign of this opinion is, that though

each %emon, and !ntelligence do use the speech of those nations, with whom they do inhabit, yet

to them that understand it, they never speak in any !diom, but in this alone.

Also consider the following e;cerpt, taken from the Third Book , chapter "M 5?>f the

:ames of /pirits and Their Iarious !mposition...@82

ut the masters of the =ebrews think that the names of angels were imposed upon them by

Adam, according to that which is written, the <ord brought all things which he had made

unto Adam, that he should name them, and as he called anything, so the name of it was.

=ence, the =ebrew mecubals think, together with magicians, that it is in the power of man to

impose names upon spirits, but of such a man only who is dignified, and elevated to his

virtue by some divine gift, or sacred authority.

Page 9: Aninymous - The Angelical Alphabet Cd3 Id296971323 Size446

The above is Buite harmonious with the mythology %ees Angels e;pounded in relation to

the Celestial /peech. Adam imposed names upon all things 5supposedly using the

Angelical Tongue8, and therefore those who have obtained a certain ?sacred authority@

are likewise able to impose names upon spiritual creatures.

Agrippa dedicates several chapters in his work to the generation of %ivine names

and characters. 5/ee the Third Book of Occult Philosophy, chapters "1-1O.8 >f course, he

utili+es =ebrew to illustrate his methods. =owever, he also affirms that ?the letters of

every tongue have in their number, order, and figure a celestial and divine original.?

Therefore, one might also use ?Chaldean, and Arabic, *gyptian, 7reek, <atin and any

other@ language with the methods of gematria and mystical name-generation he

describes.

! suspect 7abriel, in %ees ournal, was referring to Agrippas teaching when he

stressed that Angelical is ?preferred before that which you call =ebrew@ because ?every

lesser consenteth to his greater.@ Therefore, %ees holy characters were intended for use

beyond the Book of Loagaeth, and ! believe that most of Agrippas methods of name-

generation can 5and were always intended to8 be used with them. !n the following, we

will e;plore three simple techniBues that lend themselves especially well to the Angelical

alphabet- found in Agrippas Book Three, Chapters "L, ") and 1O. >f course, where

Agrippa uses =ebrew in his work, ! will use Angelical characters below2

A vitally important aspect of renaissance-era magick was the observance of

astrological forces. !n fact, a large portion of classical occult literature is devoted tomagickal timing based upon the results of horary chart interpretations. ust as ohn %ee

used this art to schedule a time for ueen *li+abeths inauguration ceremony, so too

would he have cast horoscopes to determine the best times for his magickal operations.

!n this way, strict magickal timing was observed. The astral forces active at a

given time determined what work could be accomplished. >r, conversely, a given set of

astrological reBuirements would determine what time the work could be accomplished. !t

Page 10: Aninymous - The Angelical Alphabet Cd3 Id296971323 Size446

is from these practices that we hear of spirits ruling for limited periods of time, and te;ts

that suggest spirits can only be contacted when the stars are under certain arrangements.

3e can see an e;ample of this in Agrippas Book T1o 5chapters 1'-M)8, wherein

he e;plains how to fashion magickal images. !n many cases, specific magickal timing is

reBuired2

eturning again to Book Three, chapter "), Agrippa e;plains that it is possible to

use these very same astrological indications to create a horoscope and 6decipher6 the

name of an Angel from the stars. That Angel- also called an !ntelligence- will be the

particular governor of the magickal work that will take place at that time- be it a magickal

image, talisman, evocation, etc.

At the same time, Agrippa suggests we might use this techniBue for any magickal

operation. !t does not matter whether the astrological conditions are prescribed by aspell, or calculated by the individual practitioner. !t only matters that one takes the time

to draw up a +odiacal chart, making sure that it is well-aspected toward the goal of the

work. 5Thus, if one is working with Angels of Dercury, one must make sure Dercury is

strong and well-aspected in the chart. *tc.8 !f the chart turns out unfortunate, then it

must be scraped, a new time chosen, and a new chart created.

  >nce the time and horoscope are satisfactory, Agrippa outlines several processes

for 6decoding6 the name of the ruling !ntelligence. *ach process is more involved than

the last, and his descriptions of the advanced techniBues are unfortunately very obscure.

=owever, the first and simplest method is easy to understand, and is likely the best place

for us to start.

!t is first necessary to calculate the degree of the ascendant. The heavens

compose a circle of 1LO degrees, and the ascendant is the first degree of the first

astrological =ouse- resting directly upon the line of the eastern hori+on.

!n that ascending degree, place the first Angelical letter 5 Pa8. Then, continue to

Page 11: Aninymous - The Angelical Alphabet Cd3 Id296971323 Size446

7/21/2019 Aninymous - The Angelical Alphabet Cd3 Id296971323 Size446

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/aninymous-the-angelical-alphabet-cd3-id296971323-size446 11/30

write the alphabet in proper order all the way counterclock1ise around the chart. *ach

degree is assigned a single letter, and the direction follows the natural course of the

twelve +odiacal signs. 3hen the final letter 5Gisg 8 is reached, simply begin again with

Pa and continue until degree 1LO has been assigned a letter.

From there one only needs to interpret the chart as normal, making distinctions

between the 0lanets with strong and fortunate dignities and those with weak and

unfortunate dignities. The concept is to focus on the specific 0lanetary forces one needs

for the work at hand. >ne can simply ignore the weaker and negative aspects of the chart

and 6compile6 those forces that are necessary to the magickal goal.

*ach degree that contains a desired 0lanetary aspect now has a letter assigned to

it, and these letters are gathered together to formulate the name. !t is here that Agrippa

offers several methods, some of which are hard to comprehend. The simplest is to start at

the ascendant and move around the chart counter-clockwise. The first desired aspect one

reaches becomes the first letter of the !ntelligences name. Then, moving onward

counter-clockwise, the ne;t reBuired aspect becomes the second letter- and so on

throughout the chart.

A slightly more advanced method seems to involve gathering the letters according

to the strength of the 0lanetary aspects. Though uncertain, ! recently received the

suggestion that the strongest 5or most desired8 aspect of the chart should become the first

letter of the name, and the second-strongest the second letter, etc. Thus, if one desired to

create a talisman in the hour of Dercury, Dercury ascending in 7emini, one could take

the letter assigned to the degree of Dercury as the first letter of the name.

Agrippa does not say one should consider only positive aspects in this method.

=owever, it may be implied, as gathering letters for all  aspects of the chart might make

for some unwieldy names.

Agrippa goes on to describe the -a2alistic practice of appending the gathered

letters with one of the names of 7od ,l  or !ah to create an angelic name. =owever, as

we are using the Angelical alphabet rather than =ebrew, there should be no need for this

convention. The Angels who are uniBue to %ees ournals most often lack these suffi;es-

such as (alvage, #adimi, Bornogo3 Befafes, +llemese, #apsama, etc.

Finally, the name of an 6evil Angel6- who opposes the work at hand- can also be

derived using a similar process. !t is merely an inverse of the previous instructions, using

the same horoscope used to find the good Angel. =owever, in this case one must

calculate the degree of the descendant - that is, the degree in direct opposition to the

ascendant 5degree &(O, which is the first degree of the seventh =ouse8, found on the line

of the western hori+on. The first letter 0Pa4 is placed there, and the alphabet is written

around the chart clock1ise- now going against the natural order of the +odiac.

To find the letters of the evil Angels name, one begins with the same 0lanetary

aspects used for the good Angel. Then, find the degrees on the chart in direct opposition

to those aspects. The letters assigned to those degrees of opposition will form the name

of the evil Angel. The letters may be gathered beginning at the descendant and moving

clockwise around the chart. >r, gather them according to strength of dignity, beginning

with the opposing degree of the strongest dignity and progressing to the weakest.

! originally wanted to show you an illustration of a +odiacal chart with the

Angelical alphabet written around it for both 7ood and *vil Angels. =owever, for all

)"O letters to be visible, the graphic would have been too massive to fit even across two

facing pages. Therefore, ! have settled for the following tables, which you can use to

look up the letters for each degree of the +odiac2

Agrippa suggests these methods can also be used to find the name of a persons

:ativity Angel, by simply applying them to that persons natal chart. The resulting name

will be that of a 7uardian Angel often credited with keeping one from physical harm.

Also, as Agrippa e;plains, this is the Angel set over home, career, and all aspects of life

outlined within the &" astrological =ouses.

!f the Calculating Art of Such %a&es

b# the Tradition of Cabalists

5Adapted from Agrippas Third Book , Ch. ")8

The very ne;t chapter of Agrippas work gives us another method of working with

the names generated above. !t involves permuting the name of the !ntelligence to

discover an entire hierarchy of Angels who rule above himself.

! suspect that %ee was more than familiar with the ?%ionysian@ Celestial

=ierarchy- often called the :ine Angelic Choirs. This was the standard Christian model

of the heavens during his life, and is presented in Agrippas Book T1o, chapter &", ?>f

the :umber :ine, and the /cale Thereof.@

These Choirs are arranged into nine concentric circles. The outermost consists of

the Angels closest to the material realm, who are generally charged with directing events

on *arth and are depicted as the most anthropomorphic. The inner circle consists of the

most fiery and terrible Angels, who protect and attend upon the %ivine Throne !tself. The

reader may recogni+e the names of the Choirs, from lowest to highest2 Angels,

Archangels and 0rincipalities9 Iirtues, 0owers and %ominations9 Thrones, )heru2im and

eraphim.

Page 20: Aninymous - The Angelical Alphabet Cd3 Id296971323 Size446

The name of an !ntelligence generated from a horoscope would classify as an

?Angel@ by the above model- an !ntelligence directly concerned with material or human

events. eturning to Agrippas chapter "), he suggests that the Angels name can yield

eight further names- beginning with an Archangel, then a 0rincipality and eventually all

the way to a eraph. !n practice, however, ! would assume that one would rarely needanything more than the Angel and Archangel who directs him.

!n order to understand the method Agrippa describes, we must think from the

standpoint of sacred mathematics. Any two numbers can be multiplied together, and the

resulting product will be an ?occult number@ associated with them both. Dost often, this

is done with a single number multiplied by itself- such as ) ; ) K M#. 5=ence the mystery

surrounding sBuare roots.8 The number M# can then represent a magickal sBuare of M#

cells- seven column and seven rows. !n fact, Agrippa shows us this very magick sBuare

in his Book T1o, chapter "", ?>f the Tables of the 0lanets...@- where it is sacred to the

0lanet Ienus.

!t is less common, but still valid, to multiply two differing numbers. For e;ample,

if we wish to work with 0lanetary forces via the Angelical alphabet, then we might find it

useful to multiply ) 5number of 0lanets8 by "& 5number of Angelical letters8 for a product

of &M)- the number of cells in a magickal sBuare sacred to both numbers. This sBuare can

Page 21: Aninymous - The Angelical Alphabet Cd3 Id296971323 Size446

become a magickal word-sBuare by writing the Angelical alphabet within it- from right to

left- a total of seven times.

The following table consists of the &M)-cell word-sBuare, surrounded by a border

of two outer columns and an upper and lower row. The upper row and right-hand column

combine to form The ,ntrance of the Good Angels. !t includes the seven 0lanets across

the top and the Angelical alphabet written in order from top to bottom.

The lower row and left-hand column combine to form The ,ntrance of the ,vil

Angels, This includes the seven 0lanets written in reverse order and Angelical alphabet

written from bottom to top.

& :ote that the following Table of the 0lanets has been altered from Agrippas design, in that the 0lanets

follow %ees order for the /eptarchia 5Ienus to <una8. !t seems appropriate to use the same orderingwith the Angelical alphabet2

Page 23: Aninymous - The Angelical Alphabet Cd3 Id296971323 Size446

7/21/2019 Aninymous - The Angelical Alphabet Cd3 Id296971323 Size446

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/aninymous-the-angelical-alphabet-cd3-id296971323-size446 23/30

Hsing this table is fairly simple. First, consider the initial letter of the Angels

name, and the 0lanet from the horoscope found in that letters degree. Find that letter in

the right-hand column of the ,ntrance of the Good Angels, then scan leftward through

that row to the column beneath the letters 0lanet. For e;ample, if the Angels name

began with D 5Tal 8, and its 0lanetary aspect from the horoscope were /ol, one would

begin in the right-hand column with Tal  5m8 and scan leftward to the column of /ol,

where the letter Gon 5y8 is found. Therefore, the letter !G 5Gon8 becomes the first letter

of the Archangels name.

The process is repeated for each letter of the name- always scanning leftward

from the letter in the right-hand column to the column beneath the letters associated

0lanet. 5emember, you will not use the same 0lanet twiceP8

!n order to find the name of the 0rincipality, one would input the name of the

Archangel in the same manner described above. The resulting 0rincipality name can be

input to generate the name of the Iirtue, and so forth until a eraph is produced.

>f course, the same thing can be done with the name of the *vil Angel. /imply

input his name from the left-hand column, and scan rightward to the column above the

reverse-ordered 0lanets at the bottom of the table.

Agrippa also outlines several alternative uses for Tables like the above. Forinstance, any :ame of 7od can be input to find an Angel that will answer to it. !n such a

case, one would have to first decide upon which 0lanet to work with, and then take all of

the letters from the column beneath that 0lanet. 5!f the :ame is already associated with a

0lanet, so much the better. =owever, one could input the same :ame of 7od seven

times- each time taking the letters from a different 0lanetary column- to find seven

0lanetary Angels that answer to it.8

A persons name converted to Angelical characters, and the 0lanet or /tar that

governs him being determined 5via a natal chart8, the name of yet another 7uardian

7enius can be discovered. /imply input the letters from the right-hand column and take

all the letters from the column beneath his ruling /tar.

Finally, any Angelical word can be input into the table. Thus, if one can reduce a

magickal goal to a single word and find an Angelical translation for that word, it can be

used with the table to find an !ntelligence set over the thing or concept. >nce again, it

would be necessary to first determine or choose a 0lanet most in harmony with the

Page 24: Aninymous - The Angelical Alphabet Cd3 Id296971323 Size446

magickal goal itself.

>f course, when using the above techniBues, we should not be limited to the

/even 0lanets alone. There are also the twelve forces of the Eodiac to consider. The

numbers &" and "& are multiplied for a product of "'". y forming this into a &";"&

magick sBuare, we can fill the cells with the Angelical alphabet e;actly twelve times.

Agrippa offers this word-sBuare in his chapter "), also surrounded by a border of the

,ntrances of the Good and ,vil Angels. The table is used e;actly as described

immediately above, e;cept that it allows one to work with Eodiacal forces rather than

0lanetary2

>nce we know the name of our angelic !ntelligence, it would also be helpful to

have its sigil for use in talismanic magick. Agrippa gives several methods of generating

sigils from the letters of an entitys name. Dost of them depend upon the =ebrew

alphabet, but he ends the chapter with a very simple method that can be used with any

alphabet whatsoever.

/imply take the letters of the Angels name, and blend them together to form a

Agrippa stresses that these types of /igils are not as powerful as those received

)eremonies. There were many writings by Agrippa that appeared only posthumously, so

the debate continues to this very day over whether or not he is the true author of this one.

5=ence the name ?pseudo-Agrippa.@8 egardless of its authorship, Of #agical

)eremonies has had a profound impact on western occultism- not the least of which is its

instructions for turning /igils like the above into full-fledged talismans. !n the following,

! will outline these instructions2

First, surround the /igil with a double-circle. This creates a border- or

circumference- within which can be written the names of forces in control of the Angel.

For instance, the name of the Archangel generated from the tables in the previous section

would be a prime choice.

>ne might also include a name of 7od in sympathy with the Angels nature. For

e;ample, a talisman aimed at military conBuest might display the :ame  #ad"ilodarp

57od of /tretch Forth and ConBuer8. >utside of the 4eys, %ee also recorded a large

number of %ivine :ames in his many magickal sBuares and tables, which can be

referenced for a :ame appropriate to the Angel.

!n truth, any Angelical word would serve the same purpose- so that anything from

3rath, urn or *arthBuake to Dercy, Comfort or 0leasure 5depending on the magickal

goal8 might be translated into Angelical and written within the circumference as a 3ord

of 0ower. 5/ee the *nglish to Angelical section of the Le'icon.8

As a final option, the Fourth Book  suggests writing a versicle from /cripture

within the circumference. 3e see this in several of the talismans from the 6ey of

olomon the 6ing . A passage- usually from the 0salms- that relates in some way to the

magickal goal is written in =ebrew or 7reek around the circumference of the talisman.

!n the case of an Angelical talisman, ! would suggest adopting appropriate verses from

the 4eys. 5For e;ample, a talisman intended to e;orcise spirits would benefit from the

first line of 4ey >ne- ?! reign over you, sayeth the 7od of ustice@- written in Angelical

characters. !f one wishes to summon and Buestion an entity, then perhaps one of the final

lines- ?Dove, therefore, and appear, >pen the mysteries of your creation.@8

The name of the talismans Angel can be inscribed around the central /igil.

0seudo-Agrippa suggests first drawing the lineal figure of the Angels 0lanet or /tar

around the /igil, depending on the proper number. 5Agrippas econd Book , Chs M-&',

outlines the astrological correspondences for every number from one to twelve.8 The

numbers associated with the 0lanets are2

/aturn - 1

upiter - M

Dars - '

/ol - L

Ienus - )

Dercury - (

<una - #

For e;ample, a Ienus talisman would display a =eptagram, or seven-pointed star,

around the Angels /igil. A Dartian talisman would display a 0entagram or five-pointed

star. The letters of the Angels name are then placed within the angles, or at the points, of

the lineal figure.

<ater in Of #agical )eremonies, pseudo-Agrippa e;plains how to fashion this

into a working talisman or lamen. >ne might use metal appropriate to the 0lanet. >r

fresh 5bees-8wa; mi;ed with appropriate herbs, spices 5incenses8 and color dyes. >r,

finally, one can use fresh paper 5or virgin parchment8 with appropriately colored ink or

paints. !ts shape may be circular, or it may be multi-sided according to the number

associated with the Angels /tar. 5/uch as a seven-sided lamen for an Angel of Ienus.

Five-sided for Dars. *tc.8

Finally, the talisman should be fashioned during a wa;ing moon when the Angels

/tar is well-aspected in the heavens.

As an e;ample of this kind of lamen, ! have created a simple talisman of :alvage.

!ts central /igil is fashioned from the combined letters of :alvages name. ecause

:alvage told %ee that he is under the authority of the Archangel 7abriel, ! have chosen to

place that name into the circumference. Along with it, ! have written the Angelical verse

?Dightier is Thy Ioice than the Danifold 3inds@ 5adapted from 4ey Two8 because

:alvage was the one who delivered the Angelical 4eys.
