PROJECT BRIEFClient: 2-6 years old kids

Unit Question: How can we entertain 2-6 year olds using simple animation?

Design Brief: The little ones are boooored! They’ve watched all the new movies, seen all the cartoons, had their parents read all the books, but they still want something new. Do you think you can entertain a toddler with nothing but a camera and some play dough? Prove it!

Time allow: 1 quarter

Unit Objectives: Come up with a visually entertaining short film that will capture the attention of young children

Explore different camera techniques, color choices, and music to achieve your goal

Evaluate and justify the choice you’ve made based on how entertaining it is

INTRODUCTION

Our client for this project will be the students in kindergarden in our school. The time for us to make this project is 5 weeks. The situation is that the little kids in kindergarden are bored. They’ve watched all the new movies, seen all the cartoon, had their parents read all the books, but they still want something new. We will research different kinds of animation and choose the most effective one

AREA OF INTERACTION

I think the area of interaction for this project would be community and service, because I will need to entertain other people in the kindergarden, and if possible also entertain people of all ages. For me to do that I will also need to use my creativity, so I think this is also linked to human ingenuity.

ANSWER OF INTERVIEW

1. Funny one, the one that can make me laugh and enjoy.

2. No more than 5 minutes, because it would be to long and maybe it would be very boring.

3. Stickman, because the stickman that I watched on the internet are all funny, but sometimes violent.

4. yes if it is not violent monster, because it can make more effects with the monster.

5. I would rather sound effect, because sometimes it would be hard to find the music that match the visual.

SUMMARY OF INTERVIEW

We need to make this animation short and funny, so the audience can be entertain. I think in our design we will draw two stickman design, because everyone is more familiar to stickman so I think they like it. Even though we will put monsters inside, but I think we will need to make one design about the monster, and the other one no monster, so we will see which one is more effective. I would also need to download a lot of sound effects to match the visual.

EXAMPLE THAT I FOUND ON YOUTUBE

This is a very famous animation with 5,584,251 views right now. I think this animation is famous because of the two super stars, one is Michael Jackson and the other one is Mr. Bean. I don’t think they got that much views because them, it is because of the story. This is a funny animation between the king of pop and the king of comedy. There is also no violence part in this making this animation funny. I found out that they don’t use any sound effect only music, but I think they can have a better effect with sound effect

HOW TO MAKE AN ANIMATION

Prepare materials: iStopmotion or camera, clay.

Start shooting animation. After we finish with the first picture, we need to move part of a object slightly in the direction you want it to travel and take another photo.

After that we animate our photo, but iStopmotion will help us do that.

We export it as a movie than put it in iMovie. In iMovie we start to put musics and sound effects inside.

Pros: This storyboard i think it is quite good because it has a lot of

boxes which means that it can meet the time

achievement of the length of the animation and it

also looks quite detail to me. It looks clear and i know what is the stick man

doing

Cons: I think that need improving is that the stickman

should be consisted of the stickman size. Some are

really stickman and some have a somewhat

a body.

Page 16: Animation Presentation

Design 2Pros: This storyboard is quite detail on what the stickman is

doing. Even only for the pictures i think some people

will know what they’re doing but i write what they are doing too so the other some people know

what are they doing.Cons: The floor make the

stickman not looking what it is suppose to be doing. For example the backflip, if i didn’t write what is the stick man doing, i don’t think you will know what it is doing. Same for the other boxes that write what they’re

doing

Page 17: Animation Presentation

Summary of the Storyboards

The first Storyboard was good because it shows the step what the stickman is going to do and the length of the animation might be just right to entertain the kids, not making them bored. But I think the proportion of the stickman should be consistent because some have a body and some only a have stick body

The second Storyboard was quite good because it shows what the stickman is doing on the dance floor but i think if i can make it look like it is really doing, it would be better.

Durability

✔I meet the specification because i chose the write software to use which actually paper because it is

harder for me to draw the storyboard

✔i checked this because i finished the

storyboard in time for the design stage

✔I checked this because the paper is

cheap

✔I think this will capture my audience which is little kids because i think that little kids

like action movies

✔It looks pretty eye catching for little kids

even though it is stickman

✔It is suppose to tell what is going to happen in the animation and it did so i checked it

✔It is suppose to entertain little kids which i

still need to wait for but i think it will entertain them

✔It is very safe because it doesn’t hurt the

kid

✖It will only entertain the kids for a

period of time because they will grow out of it and get bored of it.

Material Used

I will use clays that Mr. Brian provide to make the objects that will appear in my stop motion animation.

I will use a software called iStopmotion to record all the movements of my objects.

I will use a software called iMovie to edit and put musics in my stop motion animation.

Evaluation for Plan Stage

Was the plan detailed enough and why?

I could say that my plan is detailed enough, but the part when I use pictures to show my steps are not really detailed, because it is hard to find what picture I want in the internet.

Could it be followed by someone else?

I am afraid that they will be a little bit confused when they see the pictures. If they get the software and the materials that they need, than they can be something similar to our stop motion animation

Have I used all the resources available to me?

Yes, because I have checked whether I have the software in my laptop or not, and Mr.Brin will prepare they clays for us, I think we will use a product of a clay called PlayDough.

Animation (Evaluation Stage)

Page 35: Animation Presentation

Evaluating my performance at each stage of the design cycle

Investigation: I think it is pretty good, because I have put all the things that my teacher asked me to do. Though I think if I add more information, I would get a better score for Investigation, and some more comparisons on famous animation clips on YouTube.

Design: I think we should make more different design for my product, because I make to many design for the same product. I should also put more information for my summary, I don't think I have put enough summary, cause when I was creating my product I was a bit confused.

Plan: I have finished all the things that my teacher told me to do, but I think it is not enough. I think I need to put more pictures for the one who want to follow my work, and I should organize my time wisely on making my product for my plan stage.

Create: I think I have created a good product, and I make the product according to my design. I have also finish the product on time. The animation somehow looks a bit not natural cause it is not smooth enough. Some parts of the animation were too hard to move so it’s not really smooth.

Evaluate: I think I have done well for my evaluation, because I have put all what I think about my project and my product.

Monday, December 12, 2011

Page 36: Animation Presentation

Meeting SpecificationI think I have succeeded for the first specification, because I only used the applications and the tools on the list for us to make the product. For the second one I think I have succeeded to, because I have finished my product and my presentation in 8 weeks. I think I have succeeded the third specification, because I had exported my animation to iTunes and it is always ready to be post on YouTube or my blog. I don't think I have succeeded the fourth specification, because the background is too simple. For the fifth I think I have succeeded, because I have let my mom and dad see my animation and they said the. I think I have failed at the function part, because I didn't let the people in SWA entertained. I think I have succeeded for the purpose part, because I think I have made it good enough. For the safety part I think I have succeeded, because I have checked if there are viruses that is affecting my laptop. For the durability part I think I have succeeded, because I have backed it up on my hard drive and my USB.

Page 37: Animation Presentation

Successful Point

I think this product can be an effective animation, because it basically is funny and easy to understand. For students at small age could understand easily and maybe they will think its funny.

Monday, December 12, 2011

Page 38: Animation Presentation

Least Successful Point

I think we should change often change our scene, or else it would be a bit more boring. We should also use another way to let our clay jump or fly, because we can see the string clearly in our animation.

Monday, December 12, 2011

Page 39: Animation Presentation

Impact to Environment

If we make an animation that is really, really long, than we will need to use a lot of energy from our laptop. Sometimes we also use up some unnecessary energy, which means we are wasting energy. If we use used paper or cupboard, which means we are trying not to pollute our environment, because we are using a material that nobody wants to use anymore.
