BUILDING INNOVATION ECOSYSTEMS

description

TECHNOLOGY: AFRICAN NEWS INNOVATION CHALLENGE (ANIC) & AFRICAN DEVELOPMENT REPORTING AWARDS (ADRA) Showcasing the 40 finalists in AMI's inaugural $1m African News Innovation Challenge (ANIC). Although only half of the 40 finalists will receive seed grants, all of the shortlisted projects offer transformative ideas or technologies for African newsrooms interested in leapfrogging their organisations into a digital future. This session will give you a taste of the range of solutions available to African media. ANIC is Africa's largest innovation fund for journalism, supported by Google, Omidyar Networks, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Knight Foundation, The World Association of Newspapers & News Producers (WAN-IFRA), Konrad Adenhauer Stiftung (KAS) and the US State Department. Building on the ANIC model, AMI will also announce the launch of a mirror African Development Reporting Awards (ADRA) programme, to support innovative reportage on development issues. SPEAKERS: Amadou Mahtar Ba (CEO AMI), Justin Arenstein (AMI Digital Innovation Program) and Joseph Warungu (ICFJ Knight Fellow)
