Anglo-Hellenic

Established in 1997, over the past fifteen years Anglo-Hellenic has become synonymous with English teaching in Greece, having placed over a thousand teachers in jobs in Greece. Since 2004, we have been offering the TEFL certificate course every month, in addition to a variety of other teacher training courses and seminars. Anglo-Hellenic Director Peter Beech has been working in EFL in Greece since 1988 and also has substantial experience of university teach-ing, tutoring on the MA in Education (Applied Linguistics) for the UK Open University, and the University of Greenwich BA in TESOL and MA in Management of Language Learning at New York College in Athens.

TEFL International

Certification for our TEFL course is provided by TEFL International, the world's leading TEFL course provider with centers in over thirty loca-tions worldwide. This internationally recognized and highly respected TEFL qualification greatly enhances the international job prospects of our TEFL course graduates.

External Moderation

All TEFL International courses are externally moderated, and our certification is validated by Fort Hays State University. TEFL International alumni are eligible for gradu-ate credit at selected universities.

Anglo-Hellenic backed by TEFL International gives you a unique combination of local knowledge and global presence.

The TEFL Certificate Course

The course is essentially practical in nature, with just enough theory to provide sound principles on which to base your practice. In the morning, there are input sessions on the skills and meth-ods of teaching and on language awareness. The afternoon consists of guided lesson prepara-tion, teaching practice observed by a trainer, and feedback on your teaching.

The course consists of two main components:

1. Three hours of input sessions each morning, covering Language Awareness & Teach-ing Skills

Language Awareness sessions aim to consoli-date your knowledge of grammar and phonolo-gy, and provide practical ideas as to how these can be taught.

The Teaching Skills sessions develop your skills in areas such as teaching grammar and vocab-ulary, creating your own materials and correct-ing students’ errors.

2. Teaching Practice

For the first two evenings of the course, you will observe the trainers teaching classes of Greek students. From the third evening, you will be teaching the students yourself. Each afternoon, working with the guidance of the trainers, you prepare for the lessons that you will be teaching to put into practice the skills learnt on the course. Each lesson is observed by one of the trainers, who gives you detailed written feedback. After each lesson, you have a discussion with the trainer, developing the feed-back and suggesting areas for attention.

The majority of our teaching practice is at a lo-

cal school of English, providing you with practice teaching classes of Greek children and teen-agers. This gives you realistic preparation for exactly the kind of teaching situation you'll be in when you start your career on completion of the course. Additional lessons at the training cen-ter give you the opportunity to teach adults, individually or in small groups.

The TEFL Corinth training centre is located in the seaside village Vrahati, eight miles from the modern city of Corinth.

The large classroom is fully-equipped with whiteboard, audiovisual equipment and over-head projector and also houses an extensive resource library.

This room is used for our morning input ses-sions and can also be used for teaching prac-tice in the afternoon, although most of our teaching practice is done at a nearby school.

The second classroom has a single round table for working with small groups.

You are invited to make free use of all facilities at during your stay here, including our wireless broadband network.

The Corinth Area Conveniently situated 50 miles from Athens, Corinth is the gateway to the Peloponnese, an area rich in natural beauty and historical sites. Ancient Corinth, just outside the modern city, is an important archaeological site, where St Paul stayed for eighteen months.

Above the ancient town towers Acrocorinth, the acropolis of Corinth, a spectacular site used throughout the middle ages as a fortress by a succession of Byzantine, Venetian and Turkish occupiers.

The modern city of Corinth is the regional capi-tal, and has all the facilities to make your stay enjoyable, including numerous outdoor cafes, bars and restaurants, several beaches, and ser-vices such as travel agencies, banks and shops. There are excellent transport connec-tions, with buses to Athens at least every hour, and frequent trains and buses connecting Cor-inth to the surrounding towns and villages. Corinth is an excellent base for touring, set among many unspoilt beach resorts. Loutraki is a spa town renowned for its mineral water and clear blue sea, as well as the casino and night-clubs. The stunning sites of Mycenae, Argos, Nafplio and Nemea are all a short drive away, as is the theatre of Epidavros, where perfor-mances of ancient tragedies are held during the summer festival.

Corinth Social Program To help you get the most out of your experience in Corinth, we offer a range of optional social activities and excursions during the course. On the Saturday before the course starts, we offer a free pick-up service, meeting you at the railway station and driv-ing you to your accommodation. On the Sunday, we have a welcome lunch.

Our most popular excursions are the tour to Ancient Nemea, Mycenae and Nafplio the visit to the castle of Ac-rocorinth and Ancient Corinth the trip to Isthmia, the Cor-inth Canal and Lake Vouli-agmenis. In the summer months, when the Athens festival is on, we usually go to see a play at the ancient theatre of Epidavros.

We also offer the opportunity to attend professional develop-ment events, such as the TESOL Greece convention.

At the end of each course, we have the graduation ceremo-ny and party.

The meeting at the railway station and transportation to your accommodation, welcome lunch, graduation ceremony and party are all included in the fee. Excursions are not included in the course fee, and are charged at cost depending on the number of people participating.

Corinth Accommodation We provide accommodation in Vrahati, right across the street from the training center.

The main house has three twin rooms, one dou-ble and one single, accommodating a total of nine people. There are two bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen with a washing machine, and a communal lounge. The whole house has wireless internet access. In addition to the bal-conies surrounding the house, there’s also a large garden furnished with chairs and sun beds and a barbeque. The rooms are cleaned and sheets are changed weekly.

The house is two minutes’ walk from the center of the village, with all the facilities such as shops, post office, banks, bus station and taxi rank. It’s ten minutes’ walk from the beach. Vra-hati has excellent beaches, awarded with the European Union's Blue Flag, and is a busy re-sort in the summer. It's a center for nightlife, with lots of cafes, restaurants, bars and night clubs, but still relatively unspoilt.

Rooms in the main house are allocated on a first-come, first served basis, so we recommend you book as early as possible. A shared room (one large bedroom with either two single beds or a double bed for a couple) costs 250 euro per person for the four weeks. Single rooms are available for 350 euro.

Getting to Corinth Corinth is served by a direct rail connection from the Suburban Railway station inside Ath-ens International Airport (E. Venizelos). On the Saturday before the course starts, we offer a free pick-up service, meeting you at the railway station and driving you to your accommodation. At the end of the course, we'll help you get wherever you're going.
