Anglo-Chinese School (Junior)
A Methodist Institution (Founded 1886)
5 November 2019 Dear Parents/Guardians
2019 has been an enriching year for our students. We have seen how our boys have grown
not only in stature, but also in grace and wisdom. They are more confident and have
developed skills of self-management and teamwork. With just less than 2 weeks before the
end of the academic year, we would like to take this opportunity to express our heartfelt
appreciation to all parents/guardians for your generous support and partnership in nurturing
the boys in their holistic development throughout the year.
GENERAL INFORMATION
1. Singapore Our Home SG 75 Competition
The Singapore Our Home SG 75 Competition is a good platform to get our students to
remember the work of our Founding Fathers, led by the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew. It seeks to
renew the vision of Singapore by inviting creative production and thought pieces on the
theme: Singapore Our Home in SG75 (2040) and this year, the specific theme is on
Sustainability: Land and Development.
All our Primary One to Four students had a chance to participate in this competition as part
of the Social Studies curriculum and we are heartened that 3 of our Primary 3 teams
clinched the first, second and third prizes in the group category. Besides demonstrating
creativity and practicality, our boys were excellent in their collaboration. The team of Social
Studies’ teachers are particularly encouraged by the effort put in by all the boys.
2. Intergenerational Learning Programme @ ACSJ (ILP)
In a two-day workshop during the September school holidays, a few of our P5 ICT
Champions and prefects had an opportunity to interact with senior citizens as part of our
partnership with Family Central’s Intergenerational Learning Program. Our boys taught them
how to use Tinkercad, a 3D design application. This unique experience of having our boys
teaching ICT skills to the elderly not only allowed our boys to contribute in enhancing the
mental and social wellbeing of the senior citizens in the community, the learning of new ICT
skills for the elderly is also in line with the promotion of a vibrant lifelong learning landscape
in Singapore. They had lots of fun exchanging ideas and working together. Most importantly,
the boys understood the important role that they play in contributing to society.

3. Water Bottle Collection for Migrant Workers - Impacting the Community
A few groups of boys from Primary 2.4, 3.7 and 5.5 have been working with a volunteer
group, ItsRainingRaincoats, who embarked on an initiative to spread kindness to migrant
workers in Singapore. Our boys are carrying out an on-going collection of reusable water
bottles to donate to these migrant workers. This not only provides migrant workers with
proper water bottles which they can use at work, it is also a bid to reduce plastic waste and
contribute to saving the environment.
4. P5 Visit to Senior Activity Centre – Reaching Out to the Community
Our Primary 5 boys have started to volunteer at the Senior Activity Centre (SAC) in Kebun
Baru this year. Besides interacting with the elderly through games (Rummy, pool, table-
tennis) at the SAC, in our last visit, the boys from 5.4 also played some upbeat and fast
paced songs to encourage the elderly to get up and dance with them in a sing-along
session. It was a memorable experience for them as they reached out in love through their
interactions with the elderly.
5. NEW : Modular Sports CCA 2020
From 2020, a new Modular Sports CCA – ACSplore, will be provided for the Primary 3
cohort. The current Primary 2 boys have already registered for this programme and
allocation is underway. The main objectives of this programme are in alignment with the
Singapore Primary School Sports Council Junior Division Review of developing a strong
foundation for broad-based development, reducing the stakes of competition and preventing
burn-out in youth sports.
Boys who sign up for this programme will experience an individual sport and a team sport,
each of about 12-15 sessions, to develop
I. individual pursuit of excellence with a resilient mindset
II. responsible team members who contribute towards team goals through
communication and action.
The following sports are offered :
Individual Team
Badminton Football
Table Tennis Rugby
Tennis Basketball
Tenpin Bowling Hockey
Swimming will only be offered as part of ACSplore from Primary 4 onwards as all Primary 3
pupils will have SwimSafer as part of the PE curriculum. Sailing is also excluded from the
programme as the entry-level certification can only be completed in 15 months.
3
Boys who show high potential in the ACSplore Individual Sports, Football and Rugby will be
encouraged to join the Sports CCA when they are in Primary 4. Our current Sports CCAs
will be renamed ACScite and will focus on age-appropriate competitive experiences in a
specialized sport.
6. Sports CCA Jerseys 2020
From 2020 onwards, all our Sports CCA boys will be wearing jerseys with the same design.
The objectives are to provide a common identity for all Sports CCA boys and nurture unity
amongst the Sports CCAs. At the appropriate time from end of this year to mid-2020, a
letter will be sent out to the different Sports CCAs to place orders for their jerseys.
