PrefacePodcasts for Apple™ on iPhone™ user guide will assist you in gaining knowledge and understanding of the functions and uses of the Podcasts app. This user guide is intended for beginners. You will learn how to download the Podcasts app on your iPhone device, learn how to search, download and play podcasts, learn how to add stations and podcasts, and learn the many other functions of the Podcasts app.

Chapter 1 Getting StartedThe purpose of the Podcasts by Apple on iPhone user guide is to inform you of the utilization of the Podcasts App. You will learn how to obtain the app, podcasts and learn the many functions of the app.

Downloading the Podcasts appEvery new Apple iPhone device comes with default apps, many of which include the Podcasts app. If the iPhone device does not include the Podcasts app, you can download and install the app by completing the following steps:

1. On the Home screen, tap on the App Store app. 2. When the App Store app has opened, tap on Search.3. On the keyboard type in Podcasts.4. Press the Search button located on the keyboard.5. Scroll down to find Podcasts.

Note: The correct Podcasts app displays the author of the app, Apple.

6. To download the Podcasts app, tap the GET button.

Note: The app has been successfully downloaded when the OPEN button appears.

7. Tap the OPEN button to open the app.

Familiarizing yourself with the Podcasts app features

When the Podcasts app has opened, it can be a challenge to know what to do next. To ensure ease of access with the Podcasts app it is important to familiarize yourself with the app’s features.

1. Unplayed Episodes 2. My Podcasts3. Featured 4. Top Charts5. Search

Unplayed Episodes. The individual podcast episodes that you have downloaded but have not played are displayed in the Unplayed Episodes tab. Additionally, episodes from podcast providers you have subscribed to will appear in the Unplayed Episodes tab.

My Podcasts. Podcasts that you are subscribed to will appear in the My Podcast tab.

Featured. Shows the latest and popular podcast providers and episodes.

Top Charts. Most popular audio and video podcasts will appear in the Top Charts tab.

Search. The Search tab allows specification when searching for a certain podcast or episode.

Chapter 2 Using the Podcasts AppUsing the podcasts app is beneficial for finding information and entertainment podcasts.

Finding and Searching for PodcastsTo obtain the most out of the Podcasts app, finding the correct audio and visual content is important. To find specific podcasts, try out the following method.

1. On the Podcasts app, tap on the Search tab.

2. Tap on the Search bar.3. Type in a keyword.

Note: When typing in a keyword, select a word that is most related to the content you’re looking for. (For example: scary)

4. Tap the Search button.5. Choose an episode to download.

Searching by CategoryAdditionally, you can search for podcasts by category by the following method.

1. Tap on Top Charts.

2. Tap on Categories. 3. Choose a category.

Note: The audio and video podcast lists will update automatically to the chosen category once selected.

Playing a PodcastTo enhance your experience while utilizing the Podcasts app, it is imperative to know the basic uses of the Podcast buttons while playing an audio or visual podcast episode. To learn the uses of basic podcast buttons, complete the following steps:

1. On the Unplayed Episodes tab, tap an episode to automatically play.

2. Select the pause button to stop playing a podcast.

3. Select the play button to resume playing.

4. Select the left 15 seconds button to go back 15 seconds backwards.

5. Select the right 15 button to go 15 seconds forward.

Additional Podcast buttons and their actionsThere are additional buttons while listening or watching podcasts that are useful to the utilization of the app.

Symbol Description

Plays the podcast at normal speed.

Plays the podcast at one and a half the normal speed.

Plays the podcast at twice the normal speed.

Plays the podcast at half the normal speed.

Pauses/stops the podcast from playing at the set desired time.

Allows the sharing of the podcast through messaging, social media and other miscellaneous apps.

Gives the podcast options to Play Next, Up Next, Remove Download, Mark as Played, Save Episode, View Full Description, and Share Episode.

Shows the episode currently playing and the episodes that will be played up next.

Chapter 3 Useful Features12

Some useful features included in the Podcasts app are adding a station to organize downloaded episodes and adding a podcast from sites other than the Podcasts app.

Adding a StationAdding a station is helpful in compiling and making a playlist for podcasts. You can add podcasts to a station by completing the following steps:

1. On My Podcasts, tap on the plus button.2. Select Add Station.

3. Name the station.4. On Choose Podcasts, select an episode(s). 5. On Station Settings, select Done.

Note: After selecting done, the station will create for playing.

Adding a PodcastYou can add your favorite podcasts not found on the Podcasts app by a URL link.

Add a podcast by completing the following steps:

1. On My Podcasts, tap on the plus button.2. Select Add Podcasts. 3. Paste the podcast link.4. Tap Subscribe.5.

Chapter 4 Podcast Episode OptionsTo get the most out of the Podcasts app, the app features different options for playing next, removing, and sharing the audio or visual podcast episodes released by your podcast providers. After learning about the different podcast options of the Podcasts app, you can put them to use for better ease of access.

Playing Episodes NextYou can select episodes to play next by completing the following steps:

1. Select the Unplayed Episodes tab.2. Select the dots button next to an episode.3. Select Play Next.

Note: You can add additional episodes by selecting Up Next.

Removing DownloadsYou can delete downloaded episodes by completing the following steps:

1. Select the Unplayed Episodes tab.2. Select the dots button next to an episode.3. Select Remove Download, then tap Remove Download again.

Marking Episodes as Played and Unplayed

You can mark episodes as played and unplayed by completing the following steps:

Mark as Played1. Select the Unplayed Episodes tab.2. Select the dots button next to an episode.3. Select Mark as Played

Mark as Unplayed1. Select the My Podcasts tab.2. Select a podcast provider.3. Select the dots button next to an episode.4. Select Mark as Unplayed.

Note: The episode will be moved back to the Unplayed Episodes tab.

Viewing an Episode’s Full DescriptionTo learn about a podcast provider’s content or to learn about the episode being played, you can choose to view the full description.

To view an episode’s full description, complete the following:

1. Select the Unplayed Episodes tab.2. Select the dots button next to an episode.3. Select View Full Description.
