Google has unveiled the suspense over the version N. It is Android Nougat, different

from the expected Android Nutella. Google has released the developer preview of

Android 7 on March 9, two months earlier from their scheduled Google I/O event. As

Always Google has paid close attention to upcoming and popular apps to understand

user needs and included these as a part of Android Nougat Release.

Who can get the Developer Preview?

You can peek into Google’s new Android OS if you are a Pixel C, Nexus 6 and Sony Xperia

Z3 user. These supported devices users can enroll in Android Beta Program and get OTA

(over the air) updates for Android N. For rest of us who still wants to get their hands

dirty with Nougat can install the latest packages for Android 7 on their Android Studio.

You will then have to create a virtual device (Nexus 6 preferably) using AVD Manager

and launch the emulator, thank me later.

1) Quick Switch

Android will now have split-

screen multitasking which

Google likes to call Quick

Switch. It will open your

most recently used apps

side by side in different

tabs.

2. Seamless Update

Instead downloading an

Android update, then

installing and rebooting it,

Android N will now

automatically download and

install it on a secondary

partition, and you will have

the latest version of Android

when you restart the device

the next time. Thanks to JIT

(Just in Time) compiler you’ll

no longer see the “Android is

upgrading” screen following

the reboot.”

3. Google’s Keyboard Theme

You will be able to customize

the look of your keyboard with

the new keyboard themes that

Google has to offer.

4. Folder icons changed

Google has given a new looked to

their folder icon in their recent

developer previews. Makes it

more convenient and easy to use.

5. Notification Quick Reply

You can quick reply from the

notification shade of your

Android Smartphone, which

is one of the useful features

introduced in Android N. This

is more like learning from

app developers as many apps

had this feature available

before as well.

6. Lock screen Quick reply

In its recent developer preview, Google has taken the Quick Reply to the next level. Now

without unlocking your phone, you reply to your messages right from the lock screen.

7. Performance

Google’s new Android release has adopted a new graphics API called Vulkan which

promises to deliver greater visual performance. With an introduction to new JIT

compiler, Google claims it will improve battery life and will result in apps that can be 50

percent smaller while installing 75 percent faster.

8. Launcher Shortcuts and dark mode

Latest Android release will

not have launcher shortcuts

and dark theme mode.

9. New Emoji support

Google will introduce some

new sets of emojis in the

Nougat release of Android.

10. OpenJDK

After the Oracle-Google lawsuit, Google

has now finally decided to make a

switch from former Java API to

OpenJDK. OenJDK is an open-source

Java Development Kit.
