ABOUT THE AUTHORLogan James is currently a freshman living in Utah. His

hobbies include football, basketball, baseball, graphic designing and film editing. He has played sports just about his whole life. He has won a few athletic championships and has always been one of the top players on his team. Like all teenagers he spends a decent amount of time on Instagram and youtube. During the school year most of his time is taken up by homework but he manages to stay on his athletic teams and spend some time with his friends.

Rocky’s journey starts deep deep down in the core of the

earth. (The core is just a fancy word for the middle)

This is where rocky was born and he has lived there his

whole life.

This is Rocky☺ He’s a curious rock that wants to know more about the world around him.

The place he lived in was split into two areas, the inner and outer cores. These two areas were

almost the same, they both were hot and squished. The inner core was worst place to live. Rocky did not like living there. Then rocky got

an idea! He thought that if he could get out of the core, he would

feel better. He decided that he was going to run away and see how far away he could get from

his hot, crowded home.

Rocky got out of the core as fast as he could! He had to go all the way through the inner and outer core.

Then finally Rocky got to a place he did not recognize. He asked one of the other rocks what this place was

called. The rock told him it was called the mantle.

Rocky liked the mantle much more than the core. It was bigger and

wasn’t as squishy. But the mantle was still really hot and so Rocky decided to go even further away

from home. He asked another rock how far away the next place was. He told him that it was about 1800 miles away! Woah that’s really far,

thought Rocky.

After traveling for a long time Rocky felt something

different. The area around him had changed. it was now much cooler but everything

was solid like his home in the inner core.

Even though rocky liked this place he decided again to

keep moving further. He wanted to know what was

past the crust and outside of the earth. As he thought about where he had been through he

realized that earth had four layers. The inner core, outer

core, mantle, and crust.

Rocky made his way through the crust. This didn’t take much time because the crust

was thinner than all the other layers he had been through. When he got to the surface he was covered in water. He had come up

into an ocean!

This crust rocky had broken through was part of what is called the lithosphere. The lithosphere is all of the solid crust on our planet. It goes under

oceans, through mountains and basically anywhere on the surface. Rocky, once again got curious about what was above him. So he swam

up to the surface of the water.

Rocky saw water all around him, it seemed to go on forever. This water

is just a little part of all of earths water. All of the water on earth is

called the hydrosphere.

Off in the distance rocky saw something new. A place he had never

been before! So rocky swam and swam until finally he was out of the

ocean and on dry land. As he walked across the land he found more water! This water was also part of the earths

hydrosphere.

This new place was so weird to Rocky! There were living things everywhere.

Plants, bugs, animals and people were all around him. All of these things plus

everything else living on the planet together make the earths biosphere.

Rocky explored as much of the earth as he could, He saw all of the living things in the biosphere. Then one day Rocky looked up and realized he had never been into the sky before so he launched himself in a rocket, into the sky.

As Rocky flew through the sky he saw clouds. These are just a small part of the gasses all around earth. All of these gasses surrounding earth make up something called an atmosphere.

When Rocky got above the clouds he floated like a feather. When he looked down he saw all of the gases in earths atmosphere surrounding earth like an envelope. These gasses keep earth safe from dangerous things in space.

As Rocky floated farther and farther away he saw that the earth was not perfectly

straight. It was on a small angle. This makes it so the earth has seasons and is

not the same all year.

When Rocky got even further away he saw the earth moving. It was moving in two ways. One way was that it was spinning in a circle, this is called a rotation. The other way was that it was moving in a circle around the sun, this is called a revolution.

Rocky floated even further away! He could now see lots of more planets. There were eight total planets and one smaller planet on the end called a dwarf planet.

While Rocky was looking at all these planets he noticed that they were all spinning in one huge circle around the sun in the middle of them. This group of planets spinning around a star is called a solar system.

Rocky decided for one last time that he was going to go even further.He got so far away that he could see more than one solar system. He could see hundreds if not thousands! These solar systems all together create a galaxy.

By now Rocky had seen as much as possible. He had explored from the core of the earth all the way to outside of our solar system. And after all of this he decided that it was time for him to go home.
