%87What you already know

There’s no doubt about it – these are challenging and uncertain times for the public, private and third sectors alike. Every day brings news of reduced funding, cut-backs and closures. Every business relationship is under pressure. And difficult times demand new ways to respond, adapt and negotiate change.

Looking beyond the known horizonIt’s hard not to feel overwhelmed and disempowered in the current climate. Harder still to see the opportunities and choices that are available. Yes, opportunities and choices. How your organisation responds and the choices it makes during difficult times, determines its strength and resilience for the future. And right now there has never been a better opportunity to invest in the foundation of your organisation – your employees.

The link between employee engagement and organisational sustainability is

well-documented. The need to engaged openly, honestly and regularly with your staff has never been more important and the findings of the 2009 MacLeod Report underline our belief: improved employee engagement drives better performance, improved service quality, value for money and staff retention.

It is the difference that makes the difference.

Engaging mattersEmployee engagement is about passion. Passion for the job you do; passion for the values and the vision of the organisation you work for. It’s the kind of passion that makes someone willingly ‘go the extra mile’.

Engaged employees know where they fit in and how their job contributes to the success of the organisation. They work harder and get a sense of personal satisfaction from what they do. Loyalty to the organisation is a given. Without a doubt, an engaged workforce is your most valuable asset. Why ignore the obvious?

Developing effective engagement requires clear leadership, good and consistent line management and practices, two-way communication, collaborative working and a demonstrable commitment to personal growth and employee well-being.

Our Circle of Engagement model builds on MacLeod’s insight and offers an integrated and holistic approach to the process of employee engagement. Each quadrant is of equal value and exists in a dynamic relationship with the others. Yet the whole always remains greater than the sum of its parts. Because everything within the quadrants relates to everything around it, a full 360 degree vision of engagement is created.

Leadership that ensures a strong, transparent and explicit organisational culture which gives employees a line of sight between their job and the vision and aims of the organisation.

A belief amongst employees that the organisation lives its values, and that espoused behavioural norms are adhered to, resulting in trust and a sense of integrity.

Engaging managers who offer clarity, appreciation of employees’ efforts and contribution, who treat their people as individuals and who ensure that work is organised efficiently and effectively so that employees feel they are valued, and equipped and supported to do their job.

Employees feeling they are able to voice their ideas and be listened to, both about how they do their job, and in decision-making in their own department, with joint sharing of problems and challenges and a commitment to arrive at joint solutions.

Here are just some of the ways we can help your organisation:

Our strength lies in our reputation and our breadth of knowledge and experience in the private, public and third sectors (particularly local government and the NHS). We are not just another OD organisation, nor simply employee communications consultants. We do far more than leadership development and talent management. It is our unique positioning that enables us to bring all

of these skills together in a powerful and dynamic service. We will work with you to help you find the solutions that are right for your organisation. There is no ‘one size fits all’ solution: interventions that encourage employee engagement will depend on your organisation, your business strategy, your unique challenges, and of course, your employees.

The engagement of employees involves activity around leadership, management development, career management, performance management, effective team working, employee development and communication.
