Geography• In Greece it was very mountainous• They had a lot of islands and peninsulas • Some cities on the peninsulas are Athens on Attica and Sparta on Peloponnesia the mountains there separated the city-states so that made them independent

Climate and Farming• In ancient Greece it was very hot in the summer • Summers were hot and dry and winters were rainy• The good weather was very good for farming• They would grow grapes, olives and (barely grow grains)• The weather was also perfect for grazing animals • They would graze animals like mountain goats since they had a lot of mountains and sheep• They also had rich soil• They got olive trees from Athena and since she gave them such a wonderful thing they named there city after her• Olives gave them oil for skin, lamps and cooking. Also olives gave them food by themselves

Religion• The Greeks were polytheistic (believed in many gods) and the are some of there most common gods• They also believed that if you thought you better or didn’t worship the gods that they would punish you.

o Zeus-King of the gods, he could control the weathero Hera-She’s queen of the gods, goddess of weddings and marriageo Athena-Goddess of war and cunning wisdomo Apollo-God of the sun, truth, music, poetry, dance and healingo Demeter-Goddess of fertility and agricultureo Poseidon-God of the sea and horseso Aphrodite-Goddess of love and beautyo Hermes-God of travel, business, weights and measures and sportso Artemis-Goddess of hunting, archery and childbirth and wild animals o Ares-God of waro Hephaestus-God of fire, volcanoes, blacksmiths and craft workerso Dionysus-God of fun loving god of high spirits, strong emotions and wine

Sports and Activities• The Greeks played many sports and activities.• Men played games like wrestling, all out wrestling, Sprits, long races, short races and etc.• They also had the Olympics, the Olympics would be men only and men would do the Olympics with no cloths on so no woman would sneak in and pretend to be a man• The Olympics would be dedicated to Zeus• The woman had the Heria games, of course only woman would only be allowed to do these• The Heria games would be dedicated to Heria • They also had the theater that they would have plays that involve heroes , gods and myths

Greek Polis• A Greek polis is a city• In the city they would have a Agora, Acropolis and hillside• The Acropolis is where a temple to the gods would be there would be more then one temple for example one temple might be for Zeus and the other to Poseidon• On the Hillside they would carve a theater. The seats would all surround the platform (or stage) also they would have grazing land on the hillside and maybe a outdoor school• In the Agora is where the marketplace, government buildings, maybe a library would be. Also they would have a dock where sailors would sail into.

• In Sparta they would have a military government• Boys would start military camp by the age 7• They had a very strong army and also a very strict one• they had a rivalry with Athens• They were on the peninsula  Peloponnesus• there principle gods were Ares and Artemis• There entertainment was sports that were violent like wrestling all out wrestling and boxing• their economy was based on conquering and taking• A mans daily life was to Fight in the war• There Values was military strength

Athens• In Athens they had a Democracy Government• They are located on the peninsula of Attica• The boys went to school unlike in Sparta• There economy based on Trading and farming• For there Entertainment they would play sports like racing and sprits, they would have theaters also• There principle god is Athena who Athens was also named after• there values were education (wisdom) and skill• A mans daily life included things like trading, shopping and acting

Woman's Rights: Sparta and Athens• In Sparta woman had many rights they could own property also play sports. Meanwhile in Athens the woman would stay home and do nothing just watch the house and make dinner for the husbands.• Spartan woman were allowed to go in to town there husbands couldn’t because they would be at war but in Athens the husbands did everything shopped, went to plays and etc.• For an Education woman in Sparta would do physical training and help run the homes in Athens they would have tutors teaching the girls at home and they would learn how to harvest.

Men's Rights: Sparta and Athens• Men in Sparta would start army school by the age of 7• Men in Athens would live life like a woman • In Athens men would shop, go to the theater, be actors and etc. while men in Sparta would be at war • Since Spartan men would be at war their wives would watch the house and do everything a Athens man would do• In Sparta you would basically be in the army your whole life because that was Sparta's top priority• Men in Sparta had to become very strong because by the time they were in their 20’s they would need to great warriors
