What is Pompeii?One of the very first
civilizations located near modern day Naples, Italy
City founded between the sixth and seventh century BCE
Captured by the Romans in 80 BCE
What happened in Pompeii?
Pompeii was destroyed by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D.
It was covered in 4 to 6 m (13 to 20 ft.) of ash and pumice which helped preserve the city for thousands of years!
Evidence of the destruction originally comes from a surviving account by Pliny the Younger
