Welcome to the 6th annual Anchor 1 Angus bull sale.It’s hard to believe it was only 7 years ago, in the midst of the disastrous BSE years, that Kyle decided he would like to farm for a living, and we decided to convert our 450 head commercial cow herd into a 400 plus head registered Red Angus herd. We bought some great cows to start with and through a rigorous combination of careful replacement selections, from our heifer pen, and extensive culling (I think Kyle would cull his own mother just for singing a little off key – if she was a Red cow), we truly believe we fi nally have our herd of 350 exceptional red cows with 70 outstanding replacements to bring into the herd this year. We do, and always will, stand by our belief that the foundation of every good herd sire is a great momma.We are so proud of the bulls we have on offer in the spring’s sale and guarantee, without question, that you will be happy with any one of the bulls you take home for your cows here today. Forecasts from all over suggest that there is no way we can build our herds fast enough to meet the expected beef demands as far out as 2020 so it does look like maybe we are fi nally in the driver’s seat – and any one of these guys will leave you with a great set of replacement females to expand your herd.As always, the bulls are fed a fairly high roughage ration so they are ready to hit the grass without the “melt down” that we have seen on a lot of heavier fed bulls that we have purchased in the past. Several times we have had customers contact us with stories of heavier fed bulls, they have purchased elsewhere (usually for more money), weighing up to 200 pounds more in the spring coming home in the fall weighing 200 pounds less - and our 99% plus customer satisfaction rate helps us believe we are doing something right.We especially want to, once again, thank all of our past customers for their continued support, all those folks who call us just to say how happy they are with our bulls, and all of those who have recommended us to neighbors and friends as a good place to purchase their future herd sires. We love every part of this hectic business but the support and encouragement we receive from all of you is probably the best part of all.Just one last note before I bid you all adieu (pretty fancy word for a cattleman, I thought), this past winter we decided to expand our purebred operation to include Black Angus cows as well. We do have a couple of huge black commercial herds, in our local area, who approached us about selling black bulls and we are extremely excited about the 34 new black females we calved out this spring. Video Auction SaleIn an effort to make things as easy as possible for us hosting the sale and to facilitate the viewing of the bulls without a full sale facility, we have decided to offer a Video Sale again this year. For the sale the video clip will play on the big screen as the bulls are sold. This sale format was very successfull last year and at other operations, and we feel this is the best way to keep stress low on the cattle. Basically, the only difference from a traditional bull sale is that the cattle will not physically walk through the sale ring. The bulls will be displayed at the bull farm just 1/2 mile away. This will allow you to view the bulls prior to the sale and then come up to the hall for lunch and the sale. If you have any questions about the sale format please give us a phone call.

Health & Fertility:All bulls will have a scrotal measurement, vet examination and have passed a semen test prior to the sale. All veterinary work will be completed by Whitecourt Vet Clinic - Dr. B. Zygadlo.

Should a problem occur, barring physical injury or mismanagement, a bull of equal value will be provided or a credit will be issued towards the purchase of another bull. 20Z is a slightly larger framed, powerhouse phenom son with lots of hip and rib. His dam is a moderate sized, deep bodied cow with a nice udder. Take this guy home sale day and he will surely add performance and pounds to your next year’s calf crop.

22Z is a super stout, compact bull that is very correct in his makeup. This phenom son has excellent muscle structure but on top of that he is just soft enough made that the extra # esh over his rib and middle adds extra style and eye appeal. His moderate birth weight and smooth front end makes him a de! nite heifer bull prospect.

We could not ask anything more from 67Z’s dam 68R. She is phenotypically correct in every way and as consistent as they come. It truly does not seem to matter which bull we choose to mate her to in the spring she always ends up weaning a keeper in the fall. It all started in our ! rst annual bull sale when her son one of our lead o" bulls went to just down the road to our good friends and fellow pure bred breeders Gra-Tan Farms. I saw some of his calves on grass last summer and I was at their bull sale this spring and I am really happy with the job that he has done for their Red Angus program. Her calf on o" er to you this year is no exception. 67Z is a very stylish phenom son with unlimited potential. He is de! nitely a bull that you could build a beautiful herd around.

137Z is a solid made, athletic built bull with lots of muscle mass. He is extremely smooth moving and will surely cover lots of ground on the pasture. 137Z is a fairly stout and compact bull so we do not recommend that he be used on your heifers but he would work nicely on a set of young cows such as second calvers or a bit older.

2Z is a calf that we really admire for many reasons. He is exceptionally # eshy, stylish and wide topped. He is near perfect in his makeup and he becomes more impressive as each day goes by. As a matter of fact for a good part of the winter it was actually hard to tell the 2 apart. 4Z carries many good traits as well. 216Z is a soft made bull with tons of hair. He also has a neat twist in his pedigree as we bought his Grand Dam as a bred heifer, when she was pregnant with his dam from Get-Along Stock Farms. His Dam 1W has done a super job for us so far and this handsome heifer bull prospect is no exception.

Here is a well-balanced, eye catching In Charge son with a little more power behind him. It is very rare for us to see an In Charge calf weighing over 90lbs at birth but in this guy’s case it would have a lot to do with his dam’s contribution. 133U is a larger framed, big bodied cow with a striking cherry red color and beautiful udder structure. I ! nd it very hard to criticize 26Z on his overall appearance. He is the right color that a red Angus should be, he has lots of shape, length and volume to him, he has an excellent scrotum and all of this is supported by a very correct big black set of feet. However good looks isn’t everything they have to have a decent cow behind them and this guy’s mother is well like her son hard to # aw in any aspect of her makeup and she raises us a pretty darn good calf every year as well.

Long, deep bodied, soggy and stout would be just a few words to describe this meat machine that ranked in the top 10 bulls in the pen for actual gain on feed. 32Z is complete and compact and he will de! antly sire a progressive, hefty set of calves.

We would like to start by saying a huge thank you to our hard working, reliable full time employee Tim. Tim is great with the cattle but above that he is also a fantastic mechanic and a jack of all trades. Bar-E-L X-Cel 17X- X-Cel was a bull that we bought from Bar- E-L Angus 2 years ago. We selected him for his tremendous style and calving ease and above all because we just really wanted to bred some BAR-E-L genetics into our herd and more speci! cally we were interested in a descendant of the highly respected Ribeye 103R bull. These X-cel sons really are like peas in a pod. 157Z is long, smooth made bull with excellent neck extension and a very clean front end. This guy of all the full scale sons on o" er this year probably most resembles his sire when we purchased him as a yearling from Rainbow Red Angus. 54Z is a very attractive, powerhouse bull with lots of rib and a big hip. Full Scale 35U- Full Scale is by far the easiest keeping bull that we have ever owned. It does not seem to matter what time of the year it is or whether he is on feed or pasture he is always in show room shape. With that being said often feet can be an issue on heavier bulls as they get older but we can honestly say that right now at 5 years old his feet have never been touched and they are as solid and sound as the day we bought him. Full scales sons are very uniform again as a group this year and they o" er excellent hair and style ability as well as unlimited maternal qualities.

A couple of words that come to mind when I think about Beef 718T would be steady and consistent. At bull selection time he always had his group of standout sons that were stylish and similar in structure and appearance. We admire his sons for their moderate birth weights and market ability. Beef is no longer walking the pastures at Anchor 1 as we sold him because we had plenty of his o" spring in our herd and we like to keep the genetics fresh and new for our customers. 10Y is as complete as they come. He is incredibly thick and deep sided and the fact that he is a little softer made, adds a tone of eye appeal and style. We had 10Y pictured in our catalogue last year and we had planned on selling him as a yearling but he looked so impressive prior to the sale that we kept him around to clean up the cows in our AI pen. With just one really impressive heifer calf on the ground so far we are highly anticipating the arrival of the rest of his o" spring that are due any day now. His Dam 118L is the quietest cow in our entire herd and she is a never miss true beauty. Here is an absolute tank of a bull that very closely resembles the look of his sire and our high selling yearling bull from our ! rst annual bull sale Red Anchor 1 Hitch 38T. We decided to hold 80Y back from the sale as a yearling because we had visions of using him in our own herd as a 2 year old. We really admire every aspect of this bull and he continues to impresses us more every day but we ! nally came to the conclusion that our herd is just too closely related to him so we do not really have a place for him in our herd bull pen at this time. We purchased his dam from Get A Long Stock Farms through the Hay Shaker sale in the summer of 2008. She is a very # esh, nice uddered, heavy milking cow with a super friendly disposition. BID - Every animal consigned to the sale must be sold by auction. No private sales will be allowed except as otherwise provided for in the terms and conditions. No by-bidding will be permitted. Each animal will be sold to the highest bidder.

DISPUTES - In cases of disputes, bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision in such matters will be ! nal.

PURCHASER’S RISK - Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold. Animals will be cared for at the purchaser’s risk for a reasonable time.

ANNOUNCEMENTS from the auction block will take precedence over printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are therefore cautionedto pay attention to any such announcements.

CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRY - The proper Registration or Recordation paper, as the case may be, will be duly transferred and furnished to the buyer for each animal after settlement has been made.

SHIPPING - Assistance will be given in making shipment after the sale but no risk is assumed by Sales Management or Seller. Expenses incurred are the responsibility of the purchaser. Purchasers are requested to furnish shipping instructions when making settlement.

GUARANTEE - All animals will carry standard breeding guarantee as speci! ed by the Canadian Angus Association. At no time shall the seller’s liability exceed the purchased price of the animal.

EXCEPTION TO GUARANTEE - In cases where the animal is subjected to any hormonal or surgical reproduction techniques after the sale, the guarantee shall be null and void.

ACCIDENTS - Although every precaution will be taken to protect the safety and comfort of buyers, neither the Sales Management, auctioneer, or Association assumes any responsibility in this matter and disclaims any liability legal or otherwise in the event of accident or loss of property.
