The arch of aorta, arcus aortae begins at the level of sternal angle. It arches superiorly, posteriorly and to the left, and then inferiorly. On passing over the left main bronchus, the arch of aorta descends to the posterior mediastinum and reaches the body of Th4 on the left. Here it becomes continuous with the descending part of thoracic aorta.
