TheMcDonnellsareaccusedofacceptingmorethan$165,000ingiftsandloansfromWilliams,whowantedtousetheMcDonnells'influencetopromoteStarScientific'sAnatabloc.ThegovernmenthasgivenWilliamsimmunityfromprosecutionforhistestimonyinthecase.WilliamsresignedasStarScientificCEOinDecember,andthecompanychangeditsnametoRockCreekPharmaceuticals(NASDAQ:RCPI)inJune,movingitsheadquarterstoSarasota,Fla.,fromtheRichmondsuburbofGlenAllen.ApotentialclassactionlawsuitnamingboththecompanyandGNCasdefendantswasfiledinlateJanuaryinfederalcourtinIllinoisallegingfalseclaimsaboutthesupplement,whichwasbeingsoldfor$100for300lozengesorupto$300foraseriesoffacialcreams.RockCreekPharmaceuticalssaiditwillcontinueitspursuitofUnitedKingdomandEuropeanclinicalsafetytrialsinadditiontoworkingwiththeFDA.SharesofRockCreekPharmaceuticalsweredown6centsMonday,closingat38centspershare.Thecompany,whichhasnootherproductsonthemarketnow,madeitsannouncementafterthemarketclosedandbyearlyeveningshareshaddroppedanadditional6centsto31centsinafterhourstrading.
