THE VIDEO
![Page 3: Analysis of music video](https://reader036.fdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022083003/559765901a28abd63a8b46fd/html5/thumbnails/3.jpg)
Setting
• The video is set in an old military air base, it is quite dark and vast in space, therefore you only focus on
the singer and what he is saying.
• The rest of the video is a little boy with a hoodie on, looking through a window of what’s thought to be
his family moving on in life without him being apart of it. The setting is a normal family home.
Costumes
• Everyone in the video is wearing dark colours, and the male singer and little boy are both wearing black
hoodies. This could represent it’s quite a dark song with hidden meaning, and that it’s not a happy song.
• The rest of the characters are wearing normal, everyday clothing, unlike the singers. This shows they are
oblivious to what he is saying or feeling and carrying on as if nothing is happening.
MISE-EN-SCENE
![Page 4: Analysis of music video](https://reader036.fdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022083003/559765901a28abd63a8b46fd/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)
Lighting
The lighting changes at different parts of the video. When both singers are singing and the camera focuses on
them, the lighting is dark and the only thing visible is the singer. This enables the audience to only focus on
them and what they are saying.
Throughout the rest of the video, the lighting is naturalistic or for the parts in the house, the light is from
lamps and household lights.
Make-Up
The female singer is the only person in the video wearing make up, her make up is not over the top, just subtle
and not particularly noticeable. It doesn’t draw attention to herself, so again, you focus more on what she is
singing about.

Not a lot of editing or special effects are used in this particular video.
In the last chorus, a special effect of rain is used inside the military air base in which the woman is singing.
The rain could be used to symbolise tears and sadness.
There are a lot of cuts to the next scene. Throughout the video, the camera switches from the male singer, to
the female singer to the little boy in the story.
At the end, there is a dissolve, fade in / fade out. The screen fades to black.
EDITING
![Page 6: Analysis of music video](https://reader036.fdocuments.net/reader036/viewer/2022083003/559765901a28abd63a8b46fd/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)
There are a wide range of shots used for different reasons throughout the video.
The first shot is a clos up of the main singer, showing that it’s his song and it will be about him.
The second shot is an establishing shot of a house, this establishes the scene and highlights important figures
and objects.
There is an over-the-shoulder shot showing the little boy looking into a family home. This shows the scene
from his point of view.
There are long shots which show the entire human figure, this shot is usually used to place the figure in some
relation to its surroundings.
The medium shots in the video could be used to show facial expressions as well as body language.
