Analysis of combustion process in rocket using CFD software

ABSTRACT:

Now a days, liquid propellants are mostly used in aero engines, especially in satellite launch vehicle and missiles.To improve the efficiency of combustion of liquid propellants,we are analysing and simulating the combustion process in the combustion chamber of aero engines by using GAMBIT and FLUENT software.

PROBLEM SPECIFICATIONS:

The dimensions of combustion chamber are provided in the following diagrams.

GAMBIT:

Gambit is a kind of modelling software package used in CFD. We used this gambit software for modelling this combustion chamber.

Procedure :

First we create the parts like cylinder, frustum and solid cylindrical wall separately. Then all these solid models are merged using merge option in gambit software to

become a single solid. In the top surface of the cylinder, the holes are drilled by removing a cylindrical solid

structure from the top surface of the cylinder. Finally the unwanted drilled surfaces are removed from the combustion chamber. Then all the solid surfaces are meshed for analysing the model in FLUENT software.

We have finished our modelling part and analysis can be done later by using FLUENT software.
