Channel four (the tv broadcasting channel which I want my documentary to be aired on) logo is transparent in parts to allow the image behind it to show through, makes the image seem a ‘part of’ the channel. Integrated image. Not too large/imposing

A ‘pun’ can be linked to the idea that channel four tries to be alternative and relate to younger audiences and do things differently to other channels. This makes the advert stand out – it’s almost “wrong” and funny, something we may not see in a bbc one advert.

Channel four adverts mostly have this shadow effect on the text, black and white, in order to make it recognisable as channel four this is something I may do in my product

Has an advert here within the advert – shows what the advertised program is sponsored by. Could have my product sponsored by something music related – would have to be a large company as channel four is a large institution

Tells you what the program is – name of it. The time it is on (must be a later advert in the lead up to the program as it gives the date of release as “tonight” and tells you it is part of a series

Which section of the advertising series is my advert going to be in?

- There is a series of adverts which come out before the release of a program. Normal the first one is a long time before it is going to be aired and is a ‘teaser’ which doesn’t give a lot of information. It then, as you get closer to the release, gives more and more information about the product.

- Due to the nature of my ancillary task, I think I will make my advertisement later on the series of advertisement so that I can give more information about the product.

Shows you that channel four and this other company ‘dazed’ made the music nation series.

Blurred image with the title of the series over the top

Division into three shows different aspects of the documentary

Colour scheme is dark – may represent the type of content within the msuic nation series

From these two images, I notice that channel four does a very different style of newspaper advertising and mainly focusses on the main images. They normally have the half transparent channel four logo on it and incorporate text over the top with a highlighted white or black colour. The images are usually photoshoped and look like they have been intentionally.

Date and time here left on to show an alternative take on the filming style as I have used old footage – as fans of the band may enjoy seeing footage

from the bands earlier days – as I found from my audiences research

Still image from my documentary of the ‘old camera’ footage. This shows I am considering my audiences feedback as they said they preferred the use of both old and new footage from a band

Page 8: Analysing existing print adverts (newspaper) and making my own one

Still image from my footage on the new camera. Of gig of DEADSNAKES (main feature band of my documentary). This will show the action of gigs which is something my audiences like – therefore having this in my advert will entice the types of audiences.

Colours here fit with the genre of the band as ‘doom pop/punk’ and ‘post-punk’, shows a modern take on the genre and makes the documentary seem exciting with these bright colours

Image I layered over the top of the previous slide. I did this on Photoshop and it shows that I am editing editing in my product. Image of Ben the guitarist of DEADSNAKES.

The deep blues will fit with the green’s and red’s on the previous slide when I overlay the two images as you will be able to clearly see the two different images as they contract in colours

Page 10: Analysing existing print adverts (newspaper) and making my own one

Photoshopped the two previous images over the top of each other using photoshop. This gives a ‘dreamy’ effect to the image. This ties in with the music of DEADSNAKES as their music is considered as quite dreamy and light pop rock genre.

I watched a youtube video on how to do this kind of effect and taught myself how to layer two images and blue them together

Page 11: Analysing existing print adverts (newspaper) and making my own one

I put the footage into Corel Editing to be able to accurately stop the shot from the footage I had to the right place in order to get this image. I liked the shot in the foreground because it shows the intimacy the lead singer has when singing and the low key lighting and shadowing gives a sense of mystery and will entice my audiences to watch the documentary when seeing this advert because it doesn’t give too much away

I then screen shot this image and edited it on Photoshop and put it together in my advert

This is a mock up I made that is unfinished

I was going to editit and use this image overlayed over the one of dan signing

Page 16: Analysing existing print adverts (newspaper) and making my own one

I flipped the image on photoshop

Page 17: Analysing existing print adverts (newspaper) and making my own one

This is me beginning to merge the two images together, I dragged one on top of the other and then blurred them together by editing the transparency of the top image

Page 18: Analysing existing print adverts (newspaper) and making my own one

This is the images merged together on top of each other

Page 19: Analysing existing print adverts (newspaper) and making my own one

However, when I came to add this images into the full advert – it did not look good. The images where confusing to tell apart as the merging did

not work very well with these two images because they were both quite dark. Therefore in the end I just decided to use the top images of Dan

singing and not the merged one

Here I was playing around with the text. I was going to slip 180 degree’s the beginning and last letter of DEADSNAKES, however when I added them in it didn’t look very good so I just converted back to the original, right way around text

Page 21: Analysing existing print adverts (newspaper) and making my own one

I got a channel four logo form the internet and quick selected it and turned it into white from the original black. This is because all my text writing is white and I wanted the logo to fit with this. Also the black channel four logo did not show up very well and was not noticeable enough.
