Analysing Duke Dumont - I Got You

Analysing Duke Dumont. When I first saw this video I was honestly mesmerised by the simplistic but effective concept and the power that the images had behind them. I find this videos use of MES-EN-SCENE, camera work and editing very inspiring and was one of the main reasons why I decided to choose this type of genre and holiday theme. The use of atmospherically beauty in this video is incredible. This video really taps into the natural beauty of a place by its ‘add-lib’ attitude and unstructured filming. This type of naturalness to a video inspires me to think outside the box and consider a concept similar to this; taking on the challenge of just letting my camera capture the beauty of a place instead of having a completely structured staged video seems plausible due to the environment I hope to be filming and very well could work. Another element that inspired me in this video is the use of actors. The use of ‘normal’ actors I though was very effective and though the girls were beautiful didn’t make the video look superficial and industry made in anyway. This is helped me develop my idea of real women and allowed to me to progress with the idea instead of thinking it was too radical for mainstream music videos.

This type of naturalness to a video inspires me to think outside the box and consider a concept similar to this; taking on the challenge of just letting my camera capture the beauty of a place instead of having a completely structured staged video seems plausible due to the environment I

hope to be filming and very well could work.

The use of setting was another element that inspired me to migrate overseas to film my video as I saw how effective and beautiful the visuals where in this video and it prompt my inhibitions to take a risk and film outside the UK borders, knowing that there would be no

possible way I could obtain such stunning footage from within in them.

The editing in this video is another highlight for me. The fast paced editing synced with the song perfectly but still generates a relaxed calming feel. Despite thinking the overall editing is fantastic, it’s the transitions that have inspired me the most. The smooth yet simple

transitions have made me think more of the transitions between clips I will use in my video and have provoked several transition shots that will help the pace of my video remain constant instead of continuous jump cuts or ellipsis.

However, though there are many elements of this video that inspire me I think the most influential is the camera. The use of solely point of view shots is original, beautiful and very effective. It really integrates the audience; it has inspired me to recreate the same emotions felt when first watching this video in my own. Though most music videos have a diverse range of shots this video proves to me that that’s not necessarily the case. This video has provoked my though on the type of shots I want to include to create the most effect in my video rather than the conventional what I ‘should’ include.
