Focus Question
• How do homologous and analogous structures arise and how might they effect an organisms ability to survive?

Challenge I: Make a Flying Device that can fly in a relative straight flight pattern in the air for at least 3
seconds or 5 meters, your choice.
• Make two flying device using the materials available from the two separate tubs. (not all materials must be used) Take a picture of your devices
• Test your device. If is successful move onto challenge II, if it is not Roll the die to determine the type of change that can be made. (refer to the Roll Chart)
• Make the change to the device or devices that need improvement and test again.
• Continue rolling the die and making changes until the device can successfully perform the challenge.
• Record all trials and changes in the qualitative data section of the lab.

• 1: Make two changes by folding or twisting a material or the device
• 2: Make one change using tape• 3: Make one change by adding a material
using tape or other adhesive• 4: Make one change by removing a material• 5: Make one change by tearing or cutting• 6: Your Choice: Choose a change 1 through 5
