AP1 Parent Blog and BIS HUB

Click on the links below to access the AP1 Parent Blog and the new BIS HUB on the main website. There is a

wealth of information on both sites about our school and what the children have been up to, including the Y4

and Y5 residential trips and also the recent Primary FOBISIA music carnival in Bangkok.

AP1 Parent Blog BIS HUB

As a primary educator, I have always found it a privilege to work in a through school to

fully understand where our children are moving towards and what they have to do to be

‘secondary ready’. During the year, there are different occasions were our primary stu-

dents get to work alongside their secondary peers. Recently, our F1V students travelled

over the bridge to sample the delights of the secondary science labs, whilst our Y6 stu-

dents will be shortly experiencing a day over at AP2, to follow a different timetable and

sample lessons with new teachers in preparation for their transition to AP2 in August.

One such example of our close work not only with AP2 but also with our Tu Xuong Cam-

pus was the Spring Concert on Wednesday evening entitled ‘Friends Around the World’. It

was great to witness some amazing performances from all 3 BIS campuses and it was also

lovely to see those students that have gone through the transition from Primary to

Secondary school and how they are currently thriving within their educational-

ly enriched environment. The key to this success is through effective all round

communication and we continue to work closely with both our colleagues from

AP2 and TX to ensure that the best quality education is delivered across all of

our BIS campuses. Well done to all of the students that took part on Wednes-

day evening - you did us all proud!

Thank you to all of you that have accessed the online sign up for next week’s

parent meetings on Tuesday 7th and Wednesday 8th April. It is the expectation

that all parents attend this important annual meeting to discuss their child’s

progress and next steps for learning. Click here to access the initial letter that

was sent out last month.

Also, I would like to remind all parents of the importance of adhering to our

procedures for when a child is ill and when they should return to school. Please

click here to access the Primary Parent Handbook - information regarding com-

municable diseases and incubation periods can be found on pages 11 and 12.

In addition to this, please note that swimming lessons are a compulsory part of our PE Curriculum. Generally

speaking, if your child is fit enough to attend school, then they should be fit enough to swim.

Finally, a big well done to Tyler and Malik (6V), Kayla (5N), Angel and Mac (5V) and Ella (2I) for recent-

ly receiving Certificates of Excellence. These are just one kind of reward given to children that show exception-

al effort and attainment both inside and outside of our curriculum. Well done to all of you - you continue to

make us very proud of your fantastic achievements.

I hope that you enjoy reading through the AP1 Friday Newsletter and wish you a very pleasant weekend.

Music Department - Spring Concert

I love how we do concerts every year. Everybody works together to perform and it keeps getting better every

year!

Proud Suntipong

This year's Spring Spectacular combined musicians from all three BIS campuses for an evening's entertainment

inspired by friendship and internationalism. The concert opened with a fabulous combined performance from

AP1 and TX of "We Belong Together". This was followed by some wonderful songs from three of our choirs, in-

cluding the inspiring "We're All In This Together", and a superb finale of "Give a Little Bit" from all of the AP1

musicians.

After some wonderful performances from AP2 and TX, the evening ended with a rousing rendition of Saint-

Saens' "Gloria" from the Organ Symphony from all of the campuses. What a fantastic evening!

Ms Beth Bown

AP1 Music Leader

One of my favourite parts in the Spring Concert was our finale, "Gloria", not only because it's a very nice song,

but because all of the BIS schools in Saigon sang and played together.

MFL Department - Learning Language

Hola! Bonjour! Ni Hao!

In French, F3 have had a great time reproducing a painting from the very famous French artist - Claude

Monet. They used the tips of their fingers to create these wonderful masterpieces of Impressionism!

Y5 and Y6 worked very hard both in French and Spanish throughout Term 1 and 2 to try to master one of the

grammar skills which make the students fear at the sound of it: CONJUGATION!( the art of changing the verb

endings depending on who is doing the action). In between the dreaded grammar lessons, children still had the

opportunity to play games and create beautiful family trees, research famous French and Spanish people and

find out the names of countries in the world that speak both of these languages.

In Y4 Chinese, everyone was in for a nice treat from Ms Sara who planned a lesson on food and drink. They

played a game where they had the chance to win a glass of soda if they asked for it correctly! They enjoyed it a

great deal!

PE Department - Friendly Matches

Under 9 Football v AIS

On Wednesday April 1st, the Year 4

Girls FOBISIA team played against

the AIS Year 5 Girls Football team on

the BIS small pitch.

There was plenty of action. Anna Sofia

defended well with Marina in goal,

Helena made some great run ups with

me, and Calysta with Aliya running

the ball well from midfield.

It was a solid team effort as we contin-

ue our training for Jakarta next

month.

The score was a tie 0-0 - we all had a

lot of fun!

Brooke Ramsay Nuyen

Year 4 Student

U10 Football v AIS

The U10 FOBISIA football team played AIS on

Wednesday, and put in a fantastic performance. With-

in the first two minutes Halima dribbled the ball

down the wing and crossed the ball straight into the

net. Man Nghi hassled the opposition well from the

start and set Halima up for her second giving BIS a

2 – 0 lead.

The AIS keeper made some outstanding saves but the

goals from BIS kept on coming, with Malena out skil-

ling all of the opposition to score on several occasions.

Overall, it was a strong team performance from all of

the girls with Olivia making key runs down the wing

and Hannah and Luxe communicating well in goal.

The girls ended up with an 8 – 0 win.

It was a great start to their football season, well done!

Ms. Lara Wilkinson

PE teacher

On the 1st of April, the U-11 boys football team played against AIS.

The final score was 6-1 to BIS and we all felt great but tired after a phenomenal match. Andy, Joseph, Ben B

and Oliver each scored one fantastic goal each and Ben G scored 2 goals - both from outside of the box. Kai

played incredibly well in goal. In the first half BIS scored 1 goal and let in 1 goal. However in the 2nd half BIS

played brilliantly and came back with 5 more goals. Everyone played well and worked well as a team!

PE Department - Schools Dance Show

On Wednesday 6th May, BIS are organising the HCMC Schools Dance show. The show is

for pupils in MP2 and MP3 and can be a group or individual dance performed in any style.

The dance show allows pupils to showcase their talents by choreographing and performing

their own piece. If pupils are part of the Dance Centre, they are more than welcome to

combine with other BIS pupils to perform one of these dances.

Please note that the deadline for entries has been brought forward. If you would like to

perform at the show, please show your interest by Monday 6th April. If you would like fur-

ther information please email Ms Lara at [email protected]

Student Council - The Children's Voice On the 16th April, AP1 will celebrating ’Green Day’ by taking part in the ‘Wake Up to the Environment Day’

event. This initiative has been developed by the Student Council and Eco-Committee to raise environmental

awareness amongst our school community, whilst also having fun. The day itself will be full of fun activities

like; coming to school in your pyjamas, the ‘Eco-Quiz’ written by Year 6, making ‘Fun Eco-Hats’, healthy bak-

ing and many more.

So on the 16th April do not forget to ‘Wake Up to the Environment’ and come to school dressed in your pyja-

mas.
