Greet and Contact Visitation pointers1. The effectiveness of a contact is in proportion to

how soon it is made.

2. A first contact by a lay person is more effective than by clergy.

3. A personal visit is better than a letter or phone call.

4. Make a visit as soon after the first guest attendance as possible, giving information and a gift.

5. Invite the person/family back.

6. Make notes of the visit on the visitation card and return it to the church.

Follow up and document Every contact helps

Establish a schedule for follow-up contacts – personal visits, letters, phone calls, e-mail or voice messaging.

Make regular, friendly contacts, each for a specific purpose, ministry-oriented, to serve the needs of the person contacted.

There must be a genuine interest in the person.

Document each contact in Contact Management, MC103.

Send out . . . Service to others

After assimilation, education and equipping for ministry, provide opportunities for service to others.

The cycle of outreach to ministry is complete.

Follow this with constant nurture, love and appreciation.

The kingdom of heaven is like a grain of mustard seed which a man took and sowed in his field; it is the smallest of all seeds, but when it has grown it is the greatest of shrubs and becomes a tree, . . . - Matthew 13:31-32

Now go do likewise . . .

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, to the close of the age. – Matthew 28:19-20 RSV
