Edsa Shangri-La, Manila general manager Patrick Schaub treated guests to a splendid afternoon of high tea and high fashion as the award-winning luxury hotel proudly presented Filipino High Tea alongside stylish high tea inspired creations of international fashion

designer Pia Gladys Perey.

An elegant high tea parade and Perey’s holiday collection were on show at the hotel’s newly-refurbished Lobby Lounge, with live, sexy jazz funk performed by DJ Madz Abubakar and saxophonist Alvin Cornista, keeping spirits high. Champagne by Taittinger flowed as guests reveled in the beauty and pageantry of one fine afternoon, set against a background of breathtaking natural vistas. The Lobby Lounge’s brand new chandeliers danced overhead, all 3,600 sampaguita

crystals sparkling with colors of dusk.

Art of Winefeaturing dr. william chua

Edsa Shangri-La, Manila’s new resident manager, Urs Solenthaler, welcomed guests at the hotel’s recent Art of Wine affair, featuring the work of acclaimed artist Dr. William Chua. The good doctor together with his son, Dr. Denton Chua, unveiled his prized work called “Puso” along with a slew of intricate and breathtaking representations of various parts of the human heart, having come to vibrant life by the sheer use of metal. The series of sculptures was aptly named, “Tangible Rhythms”.

Executive chef Warren Brown prepared delicious hors d’oeuvres, such as gnocchi prawns, aubergine fritters, beetroot risotto, tuna tartare and rabbit terrine, that were paired with beyond exquisite Antinori wines from Tuscany, courtesy of Bacchus.

Executive Pastry Chef Martin Frowd has created a very special FIFA World Cup Brazil 2014 chocolate trophy, weighing 3kg, and is 36cm tall. It is made of

luxurious white chocolate with 30% cocoa.

General Manager Patrick Schaub visited embassies of this year’s World Cup participating countries to gift Ambassadors with personalized chocolate

trophies bearing their country’s flag.

Executive Appointments

Urs Solenthaler has been appointmented resident manager at Edsa Shangri-La, Manila. A Swiss national, Solanthaler is responsible for overseeing the rooms and food and beverage divisions, as well as other operational departments including spa and recreation.

Prior to his appointment, Solanthaler served as Senior Executive Service Manager A&G at Shangri-La Hotel, Jakarta and also at Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort & Spa.

Edsa Shangri-La, Manila has appointed Angel Louie Velasco communications manager of the 5-star city resort property. Having been with Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts group for six years, Velasco’s core competencies include public relations, marketing communications and digital marketing.
