Goel Community encourages the revival of the traditional

processes of producing naturally grown and dyed materials as

well as woven fabrics. We are one of the few organizations

dealing only with natural dyes.

We are committed to provide economic opportunities for 120

weaving families in Cambodia. Since its establishment in 2006,

our organization has provided jobs to farmers in poor provincial

villages in the country, helped them learn craft production and

improve the livelihoods of their families.

The lack of water resources anddestruction of water reservoirover decades of civil wars makes90% of the rice fields becultivated only once a year. Thismeans most of the farmers wereunemployed for at least eightmonth a year.

Most of the weavers deal withchemical dye materials which areharmful to both environmentand human life. Chemical stainingwhile the sewage is not properlybuilt and are causing seriouspollution.

Due to the long civil war andthe Khmer Rouge regime, hand weaving almost lost itsexistence. Moreover, thesystem of home based textileindustry in villages were notvery much appropriate formost of the weaving families.

Many weavers do not receive afair payment for their sweat. Thevalue of weaving has beendevalued. Most of the weaversare tenant weavers that most ofthe profit goes to few richfamilies.

OUR IMPACT01Change

The World“ ”

19

By the end of 2006, after months of research and resting and an

increase in the number of students, Goel could share its first

naturally dyed yarn to weave with seven families in Bati district.

By 2008, Goel could hire fourteen paid staffs. In February 2012,

we built a village center, which is role as a workshop for

training, producing natural dye and weaving process, on our

purchased 3000 meters square land in Takeo province.

Currently, we have more than thirty members and we share our

life by providing naturally dyed yarn, on a monthly basis, to

some 89 families.

Since its founding, the Goel Community has been providing a

platform for the jobless and the poor in the villages to earn a

living. We are committed to provide economic opportunities for

120 weaving families in Cambodia. Furthermore, we have been

witnessing tremendous changes within the families. Fathers of

weaving families stopped drinking and would work, holding the

wheel during the spinning process, in order to help support the

family, consequently leading to the disappearance of husband-

wife arguments. In addition to parents being able to support

their children's education, many other positive changes have

been taking place within the families.

Yourparticipation will help

further our ancient future…

As we seek to provide stability for the poor provincial

families in Cambodia, your participation will help

further our project. Therefore, by purchasing Goel

natural dyed and handwoven products, you will

contribute to our project becoming self-sustainable

and towards helping the weaving families earn a living.

In essence, it will enable the people to recognize the

integrity of self-support.
