MARIACHI COBRE returns to the Grant Park stage following their successful appearance with Carlos Kalmar and the Grant Park Orchestra in 1997. Mariachi Cobre was established in Tucson in 1971 by several former members of Los Changuitos Feos de Tucson, created in 1964 as the first youth mariachi in the United States. Mariachi Cobre has since been in the vanguard of the country’s mariachi music movement, delighting audiences with a unique blend of orchestral and mariachi sounds for the last 46 years in performances with 44 orchestras in the United States and Mexico, including the Boston Pops and the major orchestras of Minnesota, Milwaukee, Buffalo, Utah, Houston and Guadalajara. For 35 years, Mariachi Cobre has been the mariachi ambassador to the world through its work as the house band at the Mexican Pavilion of Walt Disney World’s Epcot in Orlando, giving many visitors from around the globe their first taste of the mariachi genre in world-class performances. Mariachi Cobre’s recordings include Mariachi Cobre, Este es Mi Mariachi, XV Anniversary and The Latin Album with Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops.
