The Kansas State University Alumni CenterManhattan, Kansas

Welcome to the 2nd Annual Planting a Seed to Grow the GardensTonight, the Friends of the Kansas State University Gardens plan to provide you with a remarkable night of

entertainment. We want you to experience more great food and fun than you can imagine. And we also happento have an assortment of beverages that you won’t want to miss!

Thank you for the support you’ve shown us by being here tonight. If by chance you learn something newabout the Gardens...something about its beginning in 1871 to teach Land Grant University students aboutgardening, or the present conservatory having been built in 1908 and then moved to its present site in1978...we’d love it if you’d continue your support by telling all your friends and family what you learn! Ourgreatest asset is your understanding and advocacy.

The KSU Gardens have been designed as a life-long learning laboratory, to encourage environmentalinvolvement with the University community and the general public. An ever-changing display of plants providesan opportunity for education, research and conservation. Students and faculty use the Gardens as an extensionto their classroom teachings. For example, students from the arts, architecture, education, entomology, horticulture, hotel and hospitality visit annually.

Over 10,000 people visit the Gardens during the year! 80% of the funding of the Gardens is through yourgenerous donations. We are grateful for your support. Please ask any member of the Friends of the Gardenstonight and we’ll tell you all about the truly wonderful plans we have for the Gardens. We are proud to be a partof this Land Grant school and this great community.

Warmly,

The Friends of the Kansas State University Garden

The Gardens at Kansas State University have been have been part of the university since 1875. In 1909, the beautifulVictorian style conservatory became a key component of The Gardens. The original formal gardens, including a reflectionpool, were eliminated in 1978 to make way for Bluemont Hall. The Gardens and conservatory were relocated to their currentsite on Denison Avenue. Unfortunately, age has taken its toll on the conservatory building and due to public safety concerns,it was closed in 2008.

Plans are being made for a new conservatory; blending new materials with historical architectural features and adding aneducation/multi-use space. Also staying true to bringing the old into the new; a reflection pool, anchored by black arbors,is planned to showcase the north garden.
