From Pastor Jon

This is the view from Cross Rock at Lutherock.

When I go to confirmation camp

(Campfirmation) each year it’s my joy to join the

campers on this hike, and even once or twice, to

return without campers at sunset. It’s a beautiful

place…a place of quiet.

During the week we lead lessons, play games,

and have deep dialogue around Worship,

Prayer, Service, Gifts and Sharing our Stories.

We participate in a service project that I’ve

coordinated the last dozen plus years. Coupled

with our campers’ interaction with college age

disciples of Jesus as counsellors, this is a

special week apart to reflect on one’s faith,

make friends and grow closer to God. Please

keep us, and all campers and counsellors, in

your prayers for this special time. Please pray in

thanksgiving for all the generous people who

contributed to making outdoor ministries a

reality, and for those offering ongoing support

CHRISMON WORKSHOP/ICE CREAM

SOCIAL

On Monday, July 23 from 6:30-8:00 p.m., the Evening Circle of the Women of the ELCA will sponsor a Chrismon Workshop/Ice Cream Social. We will be making the beautiful gold and white beaded Christ Monograms that decorate the tree during the Christmas season. Our Chrismon Guru, Diana Vetter has a new project for us. Experience isn’t necessary—expert help is available. We will also be celebrating summer with our annual Ice Cream Social. If you like to try your hand at a gratifying project and enjoy some cool ice cream and warm fellowship, we encourage you to join us on Monday, July 23 in the Fellowship Hall. All women of the congregation are invited.

From Clemson Community Care

CCC has a shortage of many food items. Children are home for the summer and families need more food during this time. We would greatly appreciate donations of the following: Juice, flour, cornmeal, canned or powdered milk, spaghetti sauce, tomato paste, and canned vegetables (with the exception of green beans.) Thank you for your continued support. Clemson Community Care depends on your generous donations!

Youth Worker Position The UniLu Congregation Council has approved adding a part-time Youth Worker to our staff to help expand our youth ministry. This person will be present for Sunday morning worship and Sunday School on most Sundays as well as plan activities for the various ages to supplement the formal Sunday School curriculum. The Youth Worker will have a love of God and of children. This position is open to UniLu members as well as non-members. It is expected that the person will work between 10 and 20 hours a week and be paid at an hourly rate of $12.00 to $13.50 per hour. A detailed Position Description is posted on both the Narthex and Youth News Boards. Persons interested in the position should apply by providing a resume to Pastor Jon by the end of June. The position will begin in August.

Summer Refreshments

We want to thank Karen Waltz for providing and serving the refreshments last week. This week Sharon Runge and Lena Jones will provide the refreshments from 9:30 to 10:30. Next week, July 1st, Myrna Johnson will serve. Come and join us for fellowship with visitors and friends. Openings to provide refreshments are still available. Sign-up list is available in the Narthex. Remember no refreshments in the SANCTUARY.

“God’s Work, Our Hands” Saturday September 8

Save the date! “God’s Work. Our Hands

Sunday” will be Saturday, September 8,

2018 for University Lutheran. (we have a conflict

on the 9th) This day is an opportunity to

celebrate who we are as the Evangelical

Lutheran Church in America – one church, freed

in Christ to serve and love our neighbor.

Service activities offer an opportunity for us to explore one of our most basic convictions as Lutherans: that all of life in Jesus Christ – every act of service, in every daily calling, in every corner of life – flows freely from a living, daring confidence in God’s grace.

Stay tuned to find out more.... we will have lunch. Many service opportunities will be available for all ages.

Family Promise

A message from Family Promise as they are planning for the upcoming three weeks which do not have host congregations: "The guests will stay in one of the houses in Easley that will be used for our transitional program. We are hoping that you can assist by mobilizing some of your volunteers to bring meals to share with the guests. The dates available are now through July 7th. Please talk with your team members about covering one or more of these meals, and let me know how you can help." The current guests are "one family - two parents, 5 children, ages 6, 5, 2 and 9 month old twins. There are no allergies or dietary restrictions. The older two children generally refuse to eat fruits or vegetables, but don't make special accommodations. The only food the parents have said they don't care for is meatloaf." If you can help, please contact JoAnn Brink at Family Promise directly. Her contact information is phone number 864-644-8825 and email [email protected]. Thank you for your help.

Mission Statement

University Lutheran is a family of faith, called by the Holy Spirit to be one ministry serving both our community

and university. The Spirit calls us to make known, by word and deed, the story of God’s love in Jesus. Our

worship together empowers us to grow as disciples as we receive, celebrate, and share God’s gifts with all of

God’s creation and created ones.
