    A PEAL OF A BELL

A great bell pealsRinging at the darkest hour

Men come running to see for themselvesIf the darkness is really coming

Amidst the long shadowsCast by the dim sun

Stars change color or is it colors changingWho can tell?

Those who leave love behindNever realize the sun

Stars reflected in a poolWhose waters find their source

    From a deep well

Love changes form but never substanceBeing all we feel that seems really real

Hearts together ringing like peals from a great bell

    WHEN THE GREAT BELL PEALS

And all colors changeLove that has become lost

Becomes a love that will always stay

The love between you and I remainsLike embers glowing from a fiery flame

Of lightning flashing brilliant bright whiteAcross the windy gray stormy sky

There will be many that remain foreverAfter the fiery flame of the change

    When the Great Bell peals

    Changing everything

Blowing love lostLike a cold winter blown storm

Blowing love lost eternally far awayFor now we can only dream of that day

So you and I will always remain

True love has made us the same thingAll we dream to come

Will carry us far far awayAcross the vast fields of stars

Glimmering countless in the clear skyFar away from anything but golden dawns

And eternal love that will always stay and never fade

    TANGLES

Tangles of silken strandsBlowing wild for the breeze to chase

    Breaking softly on skin

Like foamy waves crashing softly on sand

Tangles of auburn and goldTangled somewhere in the night

Spreading across the bedLike a glorious halo of shining bright hair

    Around her head

Tangled in the morningTangled in the moonlightTangled tangles at the dawn

    Tangling all the time

    A CELEBRATION FOR BREATHING

A celebration for breathingJust lazin in the sunWords with her fade

To long quiet momentsListening to the breeze

Through the murmuring treesDoing nothing is such fun

    Watching the sun go down

And all Ive done all dayIs chase things down hot wavy city streets

Cruising town on a cool July eveningLooking for a dream to ride

Bright shiny lightsIn the dark black lighted night

    And all I do

Is watch the tube play its thingOr go see a friend to get entertained

Its been a long timeSince I spent a day

    Doing much of anything

    SOMETHINGA Poem for the Homeless

The fire pours like never ending waterOver the hazy figures

Seen faintlySo far have they strayed

Wandering the dark streetsLooking for a flame

One figure turnsAnd the light of his stare

Burns a halo of lightningAcross the sky

No name and no meaningEmpty in the rainAlways looking

For somewhere to remainSomething that will stay

    SAME TIME

As days change to nightsAnd light fades

And the hours on the clock go byI find

Im never in the same placeAt the right time

Night hides in shadowsThe day hides in lightToo bright for my eyes

What I see is somewhere between

And I findIm never in the right place

    At the same time

    TURNING AROUND

Turning around to see her standing thereQuiet brown blazing hair

    Golden flecksIn flaming amber

Turning around to stareInto the sparkling shineOf deep dark soft eyes

    Shining mine into surprise

Burnt auburn hair longCurling to the side

    Framing beautiful amber eyes

The combining lightCoolly caught my sight

Turning around to seeA slight form dim

In the shadows of dreamsWith a lightning smile

Turning around to be dazzled byCrisp darkly curling hair

    And matching twinkling eyes

    WONDER

Moonlight your light shines where it mayThose strange lunar ways

Cerberus and darkly silver battlementsDrawn in painted shades

    Of thoughtful pale white dreams

Piercing reflected light shinesThe better eyes to seeShadows black and deep

Before the hidden shades revealed by dawn

Moonlight brings thoughtsOf ageless ancient mysteries

Wonderment glares in rays of ghostly white

Wonder all you pleaseThe only answer you will findIs in the dawns golden light

And the meanings each day brings

    WORDS SCRAWLED ON SAND

Scrawled words on sandWind blown away

Like words the wind and wavesScatter and wash away on sand

Thoughts are wind drivenScattered dreams of far places never seen

Only thoughts to have beenNew faces from some

Carnival scene of gaietyTaking away all thats so well known

Like words on windblown sandUnclear gray clouds far at seaDriving foaming white waves over the beach

Washing away wind driven wordsFrom wave rippled sand

    As the tide washes in

DIFFERENT ANSWERS IN CHAOS TOTHE QUESTION OF CONFUSION

Its all in plain view Im sureEveryone says so

Everyone seems to knowNo one says the same thingBut what does that show?

We all know the answersTheyre all different of course

    But everyone has one

No one thinks the same thingAbout anything

So how can anything reasonably rhyme?Lost in all this chaos?

    TIME WITHOUT A SOUND

Time without a soundLike rain blowing in a strong windBlinding steel gray sheets of water

Raging against the flamesOf burning cold iceSo fiery in my eyes

Pavement hard as stoneReflecting the lightning

Shining from blazing downcast eyesAs visions fill a sun lit mind

Smoldering ruins of ageless ancient castlesLit by burning flames on a high hill by a far sea

Their black smoked towers rising highReaching tall against a clear pale sky

Eyes in the black of the star lighted nightLit with the fantastic light

Of eternity burning deep within penetrating sight

    SEA AND SKY

I look out over the oceanShips vague shapes at sea

How they ride so farOver something so empty

Flat of all shapeEmpty of all but waves

Do we travel so very farIn our livesTill we are simply totally surrounded

    By boundless sea and sky?

    THE MOON IN WINTER

The moon and stars shine pale whiteThrough the Georgia pines

This chill bright nightAs the light shines from the frosty grassReflections from the sparkle to my eyes

Stars shine without number coveringThe clear black country sky

The cold breeze stirs chill throughWhispering brown leaves

And yellow and red left from OctoberDrift floating in the air

    Screech owls howl

And mice scurry under crackling twigsAs I walk through the woods in the dark quiet night

    With my thoughts and fantasies

Long lost islandsSnow white sandy tropical shores

Make up my dreamsOn this beautiful clear winter night

    MIND TURNS

Sit and think of fanciful thingsShadows of darkness

    And beams of bright light

The shadows shade your mindThe shadows of night

Bring out things from a different side

You sometimes see cloudsFloating white overA day of sky blue

Till the light fadesAnd the night shadows bring

Out things from a different side

Looking at the endless starsI wonder why

My vision whirls through spaceWhile my mind twirls with time

    LEAVES ARE ONLY LEAVES BLOWNAWAY

While time turns Ill ride a fabulous windA high roaring breeze stirring every summer leaf

Blowing fluttering showers of greenIn the storms of summer

Ill ride very leaf blown high by the windTo wind down my swirling danceGently to the soft grassy groundAway from all shadows of shade

But even falling in the darkest placeMy heart has a warm inner flame

And I try to follow its glow

Reflections of the dawnFor leaves are only leaves blown away

The years of your lifeAre quite a different thing

    BETWEEN THE DARKNESS AND THELIGHT

Between the darkness and the lightWalking these twilight divided lines

Between what is wrong and what is rightBest to remember

    To cling to the fire

Of the love in your heartAs the only way to lighten the mind

And the burdenOf the cross of life

And if you would shineWith the light of the fire

Of the love of your heart in your mind

Remember always that fireNeeds something to cling to for fuelIn order to continue to burn brightSo cling always to what your heart

    Knows is right

    THIS MORNING

Hanging out on swings in parksGoing back and forth

Over wet clay and damp grassWaiting for the rain

But the sun shines insteadBack and forth

Going by a tree in the middleSwinging away time

In the sunshineOn a gray morning

    Waiting for it to rain

And now its almost darkAnd hasnt rained all day

    ECHOES OF SHADOWS

Echoes of shadows on my mindWatching shadowy gray shapes

In the moment before dawn breaksRain bowed through glass panesAt the end of a Saturday night

    I danced with her

Had a chance with herBut I just let her go byWhen she could be at my side

Instead of on my mindI dont know why

    Something did not feel right

Echoes of the shadows of memories of the night

Fading away with the dawns light

    NIGHT FLIGHT

Climbing through cloudsWebs of dusky gray

    Clinging to some dreaming idea

Riding spinning updraftsOf chill air in pale drawn moonlightDark blue waves on the lake below

With flashes of white crestsSparkling with a lunar twinkle

    Breezing along in streaming air

Pulled by the drag of diving night hawksNinety miles an hour divingTwisted claws extended

Shrieking airWings swept back by terrific tornadic force

    BelowDim in faint starlight

Owls prowl creatures in the tall amber fieldsWild cats eyes glitter prowling owls

All after any moving thing in the great grassy sweepOf the yards and meadows

Walking these twilight divided linesLove left behind and never realizes the sun

    I remember

Dancing figures dimly twirlingSwirling leaping shadows

Dark forms whirling aroundThe flaming fire of their feelings

The stereo booms singing silvery songsThat echo in the dark hollows of the distance

Under the pale white summer moon

A light kiss that softly caressesYour hair so soft and fine

In the gentle touches of darknessQuiet warm summer nights spent

Talking and touchingWalking the twilight divided lines

Between the light of day and the shadows of night

Pale moonlight and clouds shining silverGray swifts sweeping in the dusky sky above us

Hearing your heart in your touch

    TRAVELING SUMMER WINDS

Traveling on warmly blowing windsBreezing swiftly through the trees

Never slowed by a thingSeeing only vague shapes blurring by

It all caught itself on the winds of a sigh

Long summer days run into such short nightsWarm winds blowing in the July dawnStir streamers of rippling green leaves

Shining golden in the morning light

It seems I spend my time these daysDreamily gazing at horizon lines

As thoughts stir the mind to make me smile

Traveling on warm winds blowingIn cool summer evenings

Traveling so far and yet never leaving

As the light fades dreams of the dayChange to dreams of the night

Traveling on cool stormy windsThat blow hard in the storms of the dark

So that the trees bend and sway in raging rainUntil the daylight hits my eyes and I awake

To give our eyes a rest from the daylightTo give our dreams a restful place to shine

Between the darkness and the light

The dark gray dusk and bright orange dawnThe abysmal blackness and lighted sight

We all wonder as we wanderAbout dreams and love and life

Shadows lay wavering dark gray under the treesTheir branches dancing in the warmth of the dawn

    breeze

Shadows lie everywhere by dayAlways there is light somewhere by night

The stars and moonlightLightning and fire

There is a delicate balanceBetween the darkness and light

But sometimes it is not easy to find

    FIRE FOR LIFE

    Like a roman candle

A comet streaming across the skyExploding with a fiery trail across the stars

    Competing with their light

    Tracers and streamers burning

Gave me somethingTo change feelings this way

Thoughts of warmth in the chill of the night

Memories to remember in the warm morning sunlightWords whispered to her

In the soft pale gray shadowy dawn

Sometimes the right words come alongSometimes nothing we say can be wrong

Some dream of the days haze

It makes everything appear so strangeCarries thoughts far away

Puts everything through changeMakes me feel what I can only try to say

    BLINDED MOVINGLY

When you shine like Eldest Brother SunAnd are free

Then come to you as I come to meCome to me as I come to you

    SAY THINGS

Say things softly in the shadows of tall trees

    Their leaves glittering silvery under

A chill clouded crescent autumn moonWhile I watch your reflection shimmering in the

Ripples of the wind stirred deep blue dark pool

Say all those things you so very much mean to me

Shadowy next to me in the soft darkness

The water dark gray and blue

Shining wavy silvery mirrors of youUnder the straight steep sides of the banks

    At the sandy shoreline

    Your eyes say things

    Glinting in the dark

Reflected in the water with the bright pale moon

Bright sparkling eyesGleaming with twinkles of silvery light

    Reflections of starlight way above

On this chill fall night talking to you quietly

In the deep dark shadows of tall trees

Listening to you say things by the stream side

Say things with a gentle smile

Your eyes a mirror of the light you light in mine.
