Transcript of AMPLEFORTH COLLEGE · AMPLEFORTH COLLEGE HIGHER EDUCATION, CAREERS CONFERENCE and GAP YEAR FAIR...
INTRODUCTION AND WELCOME As always, we are delighted to have so many students, including 200 visitors from other
schools, taking part in our annual Higher Education and Careers Conference. We do hope
that you all learn a great deal from the seminars in the morning and from the exhibitions in
the afternoon and that this will be the first step on your way to a successful Higher Education
application later this year. The important thing is that you get the advice and information
you want out of the event. To that end, we would encourage you to:
a) Make notes from the seminars you attend – it will be difficult to remember the main
points otherwise.
b) Visit a range of stands at the HE Fair. This is your opportunity to find out more
details about courses or universities which interest you, especially if you do not attend
the related seminar in the morning.
c) Ask questions towards the end of the seminars and at the HE Fair this afternoon – the
experts will be only too pleased to help.
There is no fire practice scheduled on the day of the Conference. Should the fire alarm
sound, all present will be directed to fire exits and evacuated to a place of safety by duty fire
wardens. We request, therefore, that visitors do not move beyond the rooms and areas of the
school in which the Conference is taking place.
Lastly, and in some ways most importantly, our sincere thanks go to the universities’ Schools
Liaison Teams, and to the large number of visitors from those universities and organisations
who have given up their valuable time to come and lead seminars and answer questions at
the HE Fair. Without their support, this event would not be possible.

GENERAL SAFETY
Vehicles
Please respect at all times the 10mph speed
limit.
Fire
Please evacuate the building you are in if
the fire alarm sounds. In most areas, a duty
Fire Warden will direct you to a place of
safety, but there are buildings which will
be open in which they will be no duty Fire
Warden, in which circumstance please
follow the signs which direct you to the
nearest fire exit. There are no tests of alarm
systems planned during the HEC, so please
treat any alarm as a real emergency. If you
discover a fire, please activate the alarm at
the nearest signposted fire point and leave
the building immediately. Do not re-enter
until you are informed by a Fire Warden
that it is safe to do so.
First Aid
We have nominated first aiders present at
the conference. Please contact one of the
HEC team who will be able to assist. The
nearest first aid box is located at Reception
and the nearest defibrillator is located by
the disabled toilets just off Main Hall. In
the event of a serious medical emergency,
please dial 999 or (9)999 from an internal
phone, give details and request an
ambulance before contacting the HEC
team.
Dogs
Dogs are welcome on site, on a lead,
providing they are kept to public rights of
way. Owners must ensure that any dog
waste is picked up and placed in the dog
waste bins provided or removed from
site. Dogs are not allowed inside
buildings, other than assistance dogs.
Emergencies and Security
In the event of a (non-medical) emergency
or accident resulting in damage or loss,
College Security numbers are as follows:
