Miss Finlay, Science Teacher
Farringtons Physical Education Department have been setting on-line video Games sessions where pupils do a variety of warm-ups skill, drills and fitness work. It is amazing how many things you can do with a scrunched up piece of paper and how tiring activities can be in such a small space. There has been some amazing photos and videos sent it by pupils.
‘It’s so important that the children do some form of PE and I am impressed with what you have put together’. Year 6 Parent

Apprenticeships This week in Well-being we looked at what an apprenticeship is.
We did this by following through a presentation from The Education Development Trust which our teacher used to help us understand what an apprenticeship is. She used the presentation to engage us and ask us questions, as well as answering our questions.
From this we learnt that an apprenticeship is a qualification gained, without a fee and you get to work and be paid at the same time.
This could be good for someone that does not want to enter adult life with debt or is looking to enter into work as soon as possible.
An apprenticeship gives anyone the ability to gain qualifications regardless of academic achievement.
However, it is not to be mistaken as an easy option as it is still challenging and involves a lot of hard work, but it is an alternative form of learning. In addition to this, it could also suit a practical learner more than university, as you can have a hands-on approach in the working environment.
Most people associate apprenticeships with building, plumbing and hairdressing etc. However, from the presentation we have learnt that there are apprenticeships available in most career areas. This has opened our minds to an alternative education. We have also learnt there are different levels of qualifications. They start at intermediate which is a level 2 programme and then go all the way up to level 6/7 which is equivalent to a degree.
This well-being lesson was very informative and has opened our eyes to other forms of education. The websites at the end are very useful and we will use them to look into apprenticeship for our potential futures. Mlle Mosqueron did a good job of presenting this and engaged us well under the circumstances.

West House have enjoyed some interest-ing and fun activities these last few weeks. The girls love their Fitness Workouts to loud music and take the daily sessions seriously. In addition to the fitness sessions, Molly’s Hair and Beauty Salon nights are also popular, with masks, hair straighteners and lots of spray. Both houses meet up in the gym and basketball sessions. This week we had a ‘Boarders’ Feast and Film Night’, where everyone met in West House to enjoy a delicious meal together, followed by watching the latest version of ‘Johnny English’ in the lounge. It was most enjoyable with wonderful behaviour and manners. This weekend, one of our Farringtons Chefs is coming in to teach us how to prepare and cook Chinese dumplings. We get to eat them as soon as they are cooked and are looking forward to this new activity. We may have fewer boarders, but we endeavour to make life interesting and manage to have a lot of fun too! Mrs Arnold and Miss Smith
We will be celebrating the 7th annual National Apprenticeship Week on the 8th-14th February by providing activities and information to Years 7-11 to learn more about apprenticeships and the amazing careers they can lead to. #NAW2021

Mrs Long’s Weekly Tips Homemade Cinnamon rolls with hot choc-olate - Delicious ☺ I followed a recipe for the buns and enjoyed the stages to create a tray of indulgent buns. Tip: Try making your own hot chocolate - grate your favourite chocolate on the finest side of a grater - boil up some whole milk - put 5 heaped teaspoons of chocolate in a mug and stir some of the hot frothy milk into the chocolate to make a paste and then slowly add the remaining milk - sprinkle the top with your chocolate flakes. Perfect to enjoy after your daily exercise whether it be yoga, walking the dog(s), a cycle in the park or looking for spring flowers.
I saw these two purple flowers this week-end on my walks, can you name them ?
Answers for last week’s flower quiz: • Periwinkle / common vinca - purple • Pyracantha / Orange Fire thorn

Well done to Savannah for her island map created for English - she stained the paper with coffee and had help burning the edges. Savannah also had fun making gingerbread men.
