    HARD/OVERWEIGHT LANDING − INSPECTION/CHECK

    1. General

     A. The maintenance procedure that follows is for the visual inspection of the aircraft after ahard or overweight landing. The visual inspection is used to make sure that the aircraft isserviceable after a hard or overweight landing.

TASK 05−51−01−210−801 Visual Inspection for Hard/Overweight Landing

NOTE: At this time there is no accurate procedure to calculate the vertical speed of the aircraftwhen it touches the runway. You must do this inspection if the pilot makes a report thatthe aircraft made a hard or overweight landing.

    1. Definitions

     A. The Maximum Landing Weight (MLW) is the maximum weight (pounds/kilograms)

    approved for the landing touchdown.

    B. The Maximum Take−off Weight (MTOW) is the maximum weight (pounds/kilograms)approved for the start of take−off.

    C. An Overweight Landing is defined as a landing at more than MLW.

    D. A Hard Landing is defined as follows:

±  A landing at a vertical descent rate greater than 600 ft/min (feet per minute) when thegross weight of the aircraft is less than or equal to MLW

±  A landing at a vertical descent rate greater than 360 ft/min when the gross weight of the aircraft is greater than MLW, but less than or equal to MTOW.
