Sewing Directions: 1. From the 1-7/8” x 42” strips, cut the following diamonds with Diamond Template: 20 grey, 56 pink, 52 purple and 16 black.

2. Trim each of the large oral 8-3/4” x 10-1/2” pieces with the Pentagon Template.

3. Arrange diamonds into three rows of three diamonds as shown. Stitch the diamonds into rows, then sew the rows together, matching seam allowances. Make the indicated number of each diamond unit.

4. Sew one each of the diamonds units with black together as shown. Make 4.

SET IN SEAMS are needed to add pieces that require two separate seams because a straight seam will not work. Basically, a set in seam is made by sewing one side of the piece being added (in this case a triangle) to the piece it’s being added to (diamonds). The fabric is then removed from under the sewing machine, the pieces are folded so the second side of the triangle to the other diamond unit. That second seam is sewn, then the piece is pressed at.

5. Sew a 9-1/2” small purple quarter-square triangle between the diamond units. Make 4.

6. Sew a large oralpentagon to thesmall oral triangleas shown.Make 4.

8. Set in two 9-1/2” black quarter-square triangles as shown.

9. Sew the diamond/pentagon units from Step 6 together as shown.

10. Sew in the units from Step 8 as shown.

11. Set in two 9-1/2” black quarter-square triangles along each side of quilt center. Then add 12-5/8” purple half-square triangles to corners to nish the star block.

Assembly:1. Arrange the following pieces in four rows as shown: one 5-1/4” small black oral square, one 10” paisley square, two 5-1/4“ x 10” grey pieces, two 5-1/4“ x 10” paisley pieces, two 5-5/8“ black half-square triangles and two 10-3/8” black half-square triangles. Sew pieces into rows. Sew rows together. Make four corner units.

2. Sew a corner unit to each side of star block.

3. Stitch six 3” x 42” small black oral strips together end-to-end. Cut two 58” lengths. Sew to sides of quilt center, press and trim excess. Cut remaining border into two lengths and sew to top and bottom of quilt center, press and trim.

4. Sew four 4-1/2” x 42” pink strips together end-to-end. Repeat with purple 4-1/2” strips. Sew pink strip to left side of quilt, press and trim excess. Repeat with purple strip on right side. Add remaining border strips to top (pink) and bottom (purple) of quilt.

5. Sew eight 1-1/2” black strips together end-to-end. Cut into four equal lengths. Add to sides then top and bottom of quilt, pressing and trimming after each border addition.

Finishing:1. Sew the two lengths of backing together along selvage edges creating a two-panel wide backing. Layer the backing, batting and quilt top. Quilt or tie as desired.

2. Prepare binding from eight 2-1/2" x WOF black strips. Sew strips together into one long binding strip. Press strip in half lengthwise.

3. Carefully trim backing and batting even with quilt top.

4. Leaving an 8" tail of binding, sew binding to top of quilt through all layers matching all raw edges. Miter corners. Stop approximately 12" from where you started. Lay both loose ends of binding at along quilt edge. Where these two loose ends meet, fold them back on themselves and press to form a crease. Using this crease as your stitching line, sew the two open ends of the binding together right sides together. Trim seam to 1/4" (.64cm) and press open. Finish sewing binding to quilt.

5. Turn binding to back of quilt and blind stitch in place.
