ABOUT LUXURY REAL ESTATE
Early in 2013, Forbes counted down the world’s most expensive cities, as defined by their respective luxury real estate markets. Luxury real estate differs from country to country and generally refers to homes and properties that are affordable only to members of the top socio-economic group. Hong Kong topped the list, with luxury homes selling for about $11,000 per square foot. With the average luxury property in Hong Kong coming in at 5,200 square feet, that puts the average luxury home cost at just more than $57 million. The most expensive American city, New York, came in at number six on the Forbes list, with properties costing roughly $4,100 per square foot and averaging 6,500 square feet for an average price tag of nearly $27 million.
