America is the world’s third largest country in total area.

With the title of “The Melting Pot”, it is no surprise that the United States is one of the most ethnically diverse nations. A great majority of the population are of European descent due to the original group of British settlers in the colonies with other national groups introduced by immigration.
In 1776, America gained independence from British power and were recognized as a new nation after the Treaty of Paris in 1783. The area of this new nation was divided into 13 colonies and during the 19th and 20th century, 37 new states were added as the nation expanded west across the continent. The United States of America has a history of war involvement, starting with their first victory against Britain to gain independence. America was also victorious in World War I, World War II, and the Cold War. The US remains the world’s most powerful nation state.
The government of the United States of America is a constitution-based federal republic with a strong democratic tradition. There is a division of power between the state and federal governments with the federal government divided into three branches, the executive, legislative, and the judicial. The executive power is vested in the president.
The US has the largest and most technologically powerful economy with a per capita GDP of around $48,000. Although the country was self-sufficient in the past, an increasing consumption, especially in energy, continues to make it dependent on other nations for imports. However, it leads all nations in the production of liquid natural gas, aluminum, copper, and gold. It is also the world’s largest producer of both electrical and nuclear energy.
