Special Assistant to the Associate Director for Developmental Therapeutics

Biologist/Pharmacologist/Chemist, GS-401/405/1320-14 The Developmental Therapeutics Program (DTP), Division of Cancer Treatment and Diagnosis (DCTD) of the National Cancer Institute is responsible for planning, directing and evaluating a collaborative, extramural, contract-supported program in anticancer drug development. The DTP promotes all aspects of the discovery and preclinical development of new compounds (small molecules, biologics, botanicals) as antineoplastic drugs. The DTP also provides drug development expertise to the NIH community through a pilot program called NIH RAID (Rapid Access to Intervention Development). Thus, drug development encompasses other therapeutics areas including cardiovascular, pulmonary, mental health, etc. We are recruiting for two Biologists, Chemists, and/or Pharmacologists to assist the DTP Associate Director in planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating the scientific research and development projects of the DTP. The candidates must have the ability to organize, plan and accomplish project tasks in a timely and cost-effective manner. The candidates would serve as Special Assistants to the DTP Associate Director and contacts consist of NCI senior staff, officials in NIH, DHHS, representatives of Congress and outside organizations (academic, pharmaceutical/biotechnical, advocacy, media, public) to present data and information on NCI programs and activities. Project implementation and resource management involve major decisions and actions which have a direct and substantial effect on the organization. Qualifications Required: A Ph.D. degree in Biology, Chemistry (organic or medicinal), or Pharmacology is highly desirable. Candidates must have experience in evaluating complex programmatic resources, goals, strategies, policies, procedures, and requirements and demonstrated ability to summarize results and communicate, manage, and implement recommendations in a highly professional manner. Candidates must have working knowledge of current research and development methods and processes pertaining to the diagnosis, prevention, mitigation, or treatment of chronic and/or life threatening exposures, conditions, or diseases. Salary and Benefits: Total annual compensation range is $102,721 to $133,543 per annum. Various incentives may apply in individual circumstances, based on experience and expertise.
