After successfully hosting this event twelve years ago, we are excited to have this honor again. We expect over one hundred abstracts for publica- tion consideration and presentation in Marietta, Georgia. Several panel discus- sions are planned as well as workshops. Information regarding the conference and an online registration form may be found at: http://cee.citadel.edu/asee-se/. “Preparing the Engineers and Tech- nologists of Tomorrow” will be the theme of the conference. Our awards banquet, where we recognize excellence in teaching, research and service, will be held on the Monday night of the confer- ence. One of the awards is named after the late Tony Tilmans, formerly a dean at Southern Polytechnic State University. I was recruited and encouraged by Southern Polytechnic State University’s Dean Tony Tilmans to participate in the 2000 Section Conference in Roanoke, Virginia hosted by Virginia Tech. OnSundayafternoon,aworkshopon“GISinEngineeringEducation”wasavailableforconferenceparticipants.PresentedbyZacharyLaneofESRI,theworkshopwasdesignedtohelpengineeringeducatorsdevelopideasforincorporatingGISintocoursesandprograms.AlsoavailablewasatouroftheFedExInstituteofTechnology.TheFedExInstituteishometocutting-edge research teams working in areas such as artificial intel-ligence,biotechnology,geospatialanalysis,multimediaartsandnanotechnology.TheWelcomeReceptionwasheldattheBigFootLodgeindowntownMemphis.
