Reminiscing

Wedding DayMemories

Are SharedThe brides shared

their memories witheach other of theirwedding day.

Penny for Your ThoughtsIn July, I had the blessing of being

able to spend time with 5 of my 6wonderful grand-loves. While visitingwith one of the girls, the subject ofgrowing old came up. It reminded meof the time my niece ran up to hergreat-grandmother, threw her armaround her and started crying.Grandma asked her why she wascrying and she said,“ I don’t wantyou to die!” Grandma followed upwith another question... “Why do youthink I’m going to die?” My niece, noolder than six, said, “Because youcan’t see very well and you have

cracks on your face.” Grandma inher wisdom and love held her closeand told her that those were notsigns of growing old, but signs ofbeing loved a lot for many years.

Margery Williams, in the classicchildren’s book “The VelveteenRabbit” expressed aging in a homefilled with love this way:

“The Rabbit was so happy thathe never noticed his beautifulvelveteen fur was gettingshabbier, and his tail comingunsewn, and all the pink rubbedoff his nose where the Boy hadkissed him.”

As I think back over my life andabout all the love I have beenblessed to receive from preciousfamily, dear friends, co-workers andeven strangers that have come intomy life the past 50+ years, I realizewhat a blessing it is to grow old. Ilook forward to having the pinkrubbed off my nose from all mykisses I have been given.
