Hardhearted

Thiazide diuretics

In study after study, they have beenassociated with increases in cholesterol.1

And now, the Lipid Research Clinics Trialhas established a clear link between lipidsand risk of coronary heart disease.2

Thiazide diuretics are also known to causepotassium depletion, which untreated canlead to cardiac disturbance.*

'Because a few patients may be sensitive to the diuretic effects of Lozol, periodic determination of serum electrolytes should be oerformed.

Kindhearted

LOZOL (indapamide)

Clinical data show no significant increasein cholesterol; in a long-term study, choles-terol levels actually fellto below baseline.3

Lozol also has minimal impact on potassium, with 95% of patients showing no clinicalhypokalemia in a long-term trial.4*

That's kindhearted antihypertensive therapy.

Cardiovascular Surgery 1986Part 2

Donald B. Doty (etf)

"Cardiovascular Surgery 1986, Part 2," the second in a two-part series supple-ment to Circulation, consists of papers presented by the Council on Cardiovas-cular Surgery at the American Heart Association's 59th Annual ScientificSessions. Problems in heart surgery, such as the mechanism of myocardialreperfusion injury in neonates and the results of surgery for hypertrophicobstructive cardiomyopathy, are discussed. Other topics offered include cardiactransplantation in children and adolescents, the role of intraoperative high-frequency epicardial echocardiography during coronary artery revascularization, and noninvasive detection of human cardiac transplant rejection with indium-111antimyosin (Fab) imaging. Supplement to Circulation, November 1987. CirculationMonograph No. 10, soft cover, 185 pp. ISSN 0009-7322 ISBN 0-87493-259-9.
