It is with a great sense of honor, pride and privilege that I am penning these few words to introduce the world of Ambedkar Institute of Technology, a Delhi Government Institute affiliated to Board of Technical Education, GNCT., Delhi. Over the past two decades, we crossed several milestones, logged in numerous achievements, created image for delivery of superior students and carved out an image in corporate as well as academic arena for ourselves. All the while, the focus has remained on education preparing capable aspiring young men and women for rewarding careers. Our quest for excellence over the years has built up the state of the art infrastructure and equipment, made more efficient by the most dedicated and experienced members of the faculty. While we endeavor to provide these inputs, students learn a lot more through their own interaction with peers and through actual work experience and I am delighted to say that many of students are live testimony to the devotion, determination, and diligence that have been the hallmark of the Ambedkar Institute of Technology. I am sure that our students will be assets for any company. I look forward to their bright future.

Coinciding with the above development, it is a matter of pride and satisfaction for me in bringing out this Departmental e-Magazine of the Department of Instrumentation& Control Engg. “ELECTRO CONTROL AIT 2016-17” portraying an array of activities and achievements during its regime during the year gone-by. Both Education and Skill Based Training are the strategic elements which would pave way for employment-enhancing skills and increasing productivity and would, in the long run, accelerate the future economic growth of the country.

The Indian Economy is a knowledge-based economy owing to its copious Human Capital with impeccable qualification, knowledge, capability, Skills, flexibility etc. and these qualities need to be developed further and empower the Human Capital to ensure our country’s Global Competitiveness. Still, there is a dearth of skilled manpower to address the rising needs and demands of the Global Job-Market. To find a solution to this problem, the Government and Private Sector should unitedly take efforts to introduce Educational and Training Programmes to mould and garner the Demographic Dividend.

Hence, it is imperative to nurture the skills of the younger generation as a “Learner First” by the respective Governments in our country for knowledge-intensive sectors. The Government should allocate sufficient funds for the development in all the Plans, Policies

and Procedures and provide region-wise Training Programme suiting to their Courses, so that the country would face the challenges of demand and supply of the Global Job Market.

It gives me immense pleasure to edit this Departmental e-Magazine – “ELECTRO CONTROL AIT 2016-17” depicting the performance and various achievements of INSTRUMENTATION & CONTROL ENGG., students during the year that has been passed. What is Instrumentation & Control Engg.?

Instrumentation Engineering is the branch of Engineering that specializes on the principle and operation of measuring instruments that are used in the field of design, configuration of automated systems in electrical/electronics, pneumatic domain etc.

What does an Instrumentation Engineer Do ?

Instrumentation Engineers typically work for industries with automated process with the goal of improving productivity, reliability, safety, optimization and stability. Instrumentation Engineers are generally responsible for integrating the sensors with the recorders, transmitters, displays or control system.

Instrumentation at AIT

The Deptt. Offers 3 year Diploma programme in the discipline, with an intake of 60 students per year. The Deptt. has highly trained & qualified faculty possessing postgraduate degrees from reputed national level engineering colleges.Currently there are seven well equipped laboratories under this department,viz:

ORIENTATION PROGRAMME

IN PURSUIT OF EXCELLENCE…………

The Principal of AIT had inaugurated the Orientation Programme for the First Semester students of Programmes in AIT on 03-08-2016. During the Orientation Programme, the Principal had highlighted various activities, features and achievements of the Institute, besides its infrastructure, rules and regulations etc. She advised all the students to refrain from ragging, to maintain punctuality and regular in attending their routine classes. She had emphasized the importance of attendance rules for the students, explained the subjects of the respective semesters, system of conducting the Sessional Examinations, End-Term Board Examinations etc. followed by the introduction of Faculty Members of Department. The Principal motivated the students to hone their skills in all the ways possible and advised to secure University Ranks in their ensuing University Examinations and bring laurels to the Institute.

Board of Technical Education brings out its Academic Calendar for each academic year well-in-advance in respect of all the diploma programmes, for better planning and proper execution of academic activities. Industrial Training /Industrial VisitsAIT, in order to provide live exposure of the new technology, Industry, Production and Manufacturing activities and to keep the students abreast with the up-to-date developments in the Globalized Scenario, is always arranging Industrial Visits/Study Visits to the students studying in all its Programmes during the year. During this Industrial Visit[s]/Study Visit[s], the students were exposed to various activities practiced by the Organizations.

Apart from these, Industrial Training for four weeks for all 2nd year /3rd semester students is another key tool to familiarize the students with real world of work. Few of the industries whohave been constantly extending support to the Department are IPGCL, NTPC, MOTHER DIARY, DELHI MILK SCHEME,NPTI, BPCL etc.

Every year, students of final year undergo full day training on 210MW Simulator Panel Facility of Regional Power Training Institute (RPTI), Badarpur, New Delhi. This is claimed to be a golden opportunity for trainees of the discipline to expose them into Thermal Power Generation sector.

Major Project

It is an integral part of the curriculum of Instrumentation &Control Engineering.Major Project work is the ultimate result of the knowledge & skills acquired by budding engineers. To implement this, Final year student always form a group of 4-5 and design, fabricate test and exhibit their technical strength before they are finally evaluated for award of Diploma by Govt.Of Delhi.

Do you know what is DOPPLER RADAR ? By tracking changes in the speed and direction of wind and precipitation, Doppler radar helps detect when dangerous rotational patterns are developing-precursors to thing like tornadoes and hurricanes. The installation of short range Doppler radar at airports has given air traffic controllers the ability to know when conditions are ripe for microburst or wind shear, a phenomenon that has caused planes to crash at takeoff and landing. Astronomers have applied the Doppler Effect-the change in the wavelength of light emitted by a moving star- to show that galaxies are moving away from one another. Meteorologist use the phenomenon to improve their ability to warn of imminent weather.

For centuries Europe used the Julian calendar, put in place by Julius Caser, which gave us the now familiar names of the months but which was off by about 11 minutes a year. By 1582, after 1600 years, the error had grown to the equivalent of about ten days. After gathering calculations made by a group of mathematics and astronomers, Pope Gregory XIII (1502-1585). The result is the Gregorian calendar that we still use today. Match earth’s actual 365.24199 day annual trip around the sun.

UTSAV 2017….Cultural & Sports Week Celebration

The students apart from their tiring and busy curricular and co-curricular activities, finds time to exhibit their hidden talents in Sports, Art and Culture. Every year they organise sports & cultural week under the guidance of faculty coordinators, which undoubtedly nurture them into shaped and groomed individual.

AIT has organized a Cultural & Sports week (06.03.2017 to 09.03.2017) UTSAV 2017. The Programme was inaugurated by Chief Guest Dr. Daya Gupta , eminent Professor and Former Head of Computer Engg Dept at Delhi Technological University.

(Rashtra Times). During Welcoming Speech, Dr. (Mrs.) Amita Dev, Principal, AIT, had extended a warm welcome to all the Distinguished Guests and Dignitaries on the Dais and the participants. She appraised the importance of organizing this cultural & sports week. She further added that this would act as a Platform for the total personality development of students. To have a healthy body along with a healthy mind, it is very important to have some amount of games and sports activities in life. Any equipment or tool without use starts rusting; likewise without any sports/games/yoga, our bodies also start rusting and we get affected by various types of mental and physical diseases and ailments.

ECO-CLUB

No stone is left unturned by our trainees in their strive to protect the mother earth. ECO CLUB is a scheme started by Dept. Of Environment & Forest, Govt. of Delhi, with the objective to spread environmental awareness among students. Every year Eco club activities like tree plantation, Projects competitions on Waste Recycling etc. are held under the banner AIT ECO CLUB .

SWACHH BHARAT ABHIYAN…..

AIT is also dedicated towards the effort SWACHH BHARAT ABHIYAN in the institute. In this regard Principal has

always motivated the students, faculty & staff to put in continuous efforts towards SWACCH BHARAT ABHIYAN. Every Friday of the week is dedicated towards SWACHH BHARAT ABHIYAN to clean the class rooms, computer labs, corridors & the premises of AIT. Students, faculty & staff have also taken Oath to participate in SWACHH BHARAT ABHIYAN regularly.
