K-2 Mrs. Kylis, Facilitator Students will discover the design process and how engineers influence their lives. They will explore structure and function by identifying products around them designed by engineers, asking questions engineers might ask as they design products, and determining the structure and function of items. Working in small groups, students design, build, and test a structure from available materials to withstand a force. Students will apply newly acquired knowledge and skills as they utilize the design process to design, sketch, build, test, and reflect in a new tool design.

Grades 3-5 Mrs. Kylis, Facilitator The students will explore simple machines such as wheel and axles, levers, the inclined plane, and more as they investigate the effects of balanced and unbalanced forces in the motion of an object. Additionally, students explore magnetic interactions between two objects not in contact with each other through a hands-on project. Finally, students apply their knowledge of mechanisms and magnetic interactions as part of a solution to a design problem.

Speech and Debate

Grades 1-5 Mrs. Hart, Facilitator This course is designed to give students in grades 1 through 5 practice in Public Speaking. Public Speaking skills are critical in the development of self-confidence, leadership, proficiency in verbal and non-verbal communication, and the power of persuasion. Each student will select and memorize a poem, fable, scripture, *patriotic oration, or *original speech (*5th grade only) to deliver in the ACSI Elementary Speech Meet, on May 1st, 2016 at Rancho Christian School. All participants will receive a certificate with a ribbon indicating Superior, Excellent, or Good. Throughout this course participants will also practice reading aloud, and creating and presenting Power Point and Keynote presentations, as well as debating age-appropriate topics. Your child will become aware of the importance of eye contact, posture and body language, tone, quality, and volume of voice, and proper pronunciation and articulation. We are instructed to go into the world and preach the Gospel to every creature. This is a great way to equip your child with the ability to make a difference in the world.

Intramural Basketball

Grades 1-5 Mr.Pyne, Facilitator Basketball will be the first sport of the new year, from February 2nd to February 19th. During our first week,

Dynamic Art Discovery Course Description

A 12 week journey into the world around us through art. Creating art opens a window into a child's imagination with a positive avenue for self-expression. Each session will provide a defined project accompanied with step-by-step instruction and demonstrations. It will be left open ended enough to allow each student the opportunity to use their own thoughts and ideas in the creative process. As children learn to utilize their creativity and express it in a constructive way, art becomes a great way to build self-confidence and self-esteem. Have fun with your friends and make new friends . A relaxed atmosphere will allow each student to explore a wide range of materials such as charcoal, tempera paints, watercolor, oil pastels, chalk pastels, fibers, colored pencils and more. Experimenting with various techniques such as batik, drawing, painting, collage, and print making and sculpture will give each student an avenue to soar. Projects have a main central theme based on animals, nature , multi-cultures , architecture, fantasy and more. We will incorporate a fun game to help students recognize famous artists and their works to enhance their art experience. All skill levels are encouraged. Concepts of line, shape, color, texture, pattern and form will seamlessly be integrated into each session. These are an integral part of developing your child's problem solving skills which benefits all aspects of their lives. Remember beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Art has no boundaries. Lower level classes K-2 will have a separate project each week. Upper level classes 3-5 will have some projects that require 2 sessions for more in depth art along with some single projects. Mondays K-2 3:30-4:30 3-5 4:30-5:30 Each session is $10.00 with materials included.

I'm excited and looking forward to sharing time with you child. Any questions feel free to contact me at (951) 294-2945 Mrs. Robin Macpherson
