Tanzania is a country in the eastern Africa, boarded by Kenya and Uganda to the north, Rwanda, Burun-di and Democratic Republic of Congo to the west, Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique to the south and Indian ocean to the east.It is a big country of about 947,000 square km, with an estimated population of 52 million of diverse ethnicity, language and religion.Tanzania is known for its wide choices of tourist attractions, from rich national parks on the north and south to great lakes (lake Victoria, Tanganyika and Nyasa) on west and exotic beaches on the coast of Indian ocean without forgetting our pride, the peak of Africa, Mt. Kilimanjaro.

With all this, Tanzania is blessed with great people. People who have a great heart, hospitable and who goes extra mile just to make you smile without asking them. Our Kenya neighbors can surely attest this.Dodoma our capital city is situated at the center of Tanzania and famously known for juicy grapes and great wines. It is a semi arid region and averagely populated.Arusha also known as the safari capital or the “A” town is the most visited city in Tanzania. Arusha is scenically situated on the base of mount Meru and the climate is relatively cool. It is also famed as the mid-point from Cape Town to Cairo.

Health workers are a vital component of health systems in every region and every country around the world. The health workforce has not only a pivotal role in provision of basic health care services, but is also vital to build communities’ resilience to emergencies and disasters of natural or man-made origin. Having a sustainable health workforce is a crucial step towards improved and universal health coverage to ensure that the right to enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of health is respected, protected and fulfilled.

Health of communities is the basic premise for the continuous development of society. The global goal towards the universal availability, accessibility, acceptability and quality of health services is also reflected in the 2030 Sustainable development agenda, under the Goal 3: Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages, particularly under the target 3.C: “Substantially increase health financing and the recruitment, development, training and retention of the health workforce in develop-ing countries, especially in least developed countries and small island developing States”.

Progressive yet demanding health priorities of the 2030 Sustainable development agenda will remain merely ambitions if not accompanied by an integrated strategy concerning those who should be the driving force of this change - health workers. The complex and interlinked nature of the global health workforce requires a multisectoral approach in its development, involving health care professionals, public health experts, health care students and other relevant actors such as ministries of finance and donors.

The World Health Organisation (WHO), the UN international public health agency reaffirmed in 2016 its commitment to address global health workforce by developing the Global strategy for human resources for health: Workforce 2030. The aim of this strategy is “to improve health, social and economic development outcomes by ensuring universal availability, accessibility, acceptability, cover-age and quality of the health workforce through adequate investments to strengthen health systems, and the implementation of effective policies at national, regional and global levels”.

As intensive as trainings can get, the AM17 PRE-GA will be 3 full days of intensive trainings and capacity building, enriching medical students and others alike with the experience and an all-rounded exposure beyond the walls of the classrooms.

The three days are expected to be as fruitful as a team of highly motivated and experienced trainers arepreparing to make it memorable.

Pre GA will be held at Ngurdoto Mountain Lodge. It is a beautiful and convinient place for conducting trainings and having fun at the same time.

Crisis in human resources for health: innovative health financing under the SDG3 framework

Sustainable Health Workforce was selected to be one of IFMSA Global External Focus Areas for the 2016/2017 term. IFMSA set its goal to continue capacity building and regional participation in Human Resources for Health (HRH) external representation, and to monitor regional effects of the Global Strategy on Human Resources for Health: Workforce 2030.

IFMSA also aims to remain an active advocate and stakeholder in HRH and Sustainable Health Work-force policy platforms, and to encourage investment and policy-making in the development of a sustainable health workforce. In line with that, IFMSA is involved in the organization of a Youth Forum at the 4th Global Forum on Human Resources for Health to be held in Dublin, Ireland in November 2017. The theme event of the IFMSA General Assembly August Meeting under the name ,,Crisis in human resources for health: innovative health financing under the SDG3 framework,, sets the founda-tion for a constructive debate leading up to the Youth Forum and provides an opportunity for medical students to share and discuss their opinions about questions such as:

How can investments in health care drive national and regional economic growth?

How to ensure that health sector will address the needs of communities?

What is the role of social accountability and inter-professional cooperation in building the sustainable health workforce?

How can women empowerment in health employment influence the future of health workforce?

A five star lodge, nestled between Mt Meru and Mt Kilimanjaro, located with a lush coffee plantation, 140 acres, with natural streams flowing through the property from Mt Meru. Filled with sounds of birds singing and green ambiance and perfect serenity for special people like you.It is about 45 minutes drive from Kilimanjaro International airport and 20 minutes drive to the city center.

Accommodation will be in the double and triple bedrooms. It has more than 300 rooms and 1300 beds. All rooms have mini bar, safe, cable TV, telephone line, internet access, bath and shower etc…full board restaurant (Kilimanjaro) has more than 1000 seats and Cane restaurant has 600 seats. There is one bar and one coffee shop.

It has one outdoor pool, tennis court, basketball court, football court and golf course.

The Lodge has 13 halls of different capacities Tanzania Convention Center being the biggest with a capacity of over 1,000 people perfect for plenaries and ceremonies.

The remaing halls have different capacities ranging between 40 to 600 people.

We believe the halls will be enough to accomodate all other different training groups.

TRANSPORTATION

You can get to Tanzania by boat, road or plane. If you are coming from bordering countries such as Kenya, Rwanda or even South Africa you can use the road. You will get to enjoy the scenical view of Tanzania.

For those of you coming from further away, we have two main International airports, Kilimanjaro Inter-national airport (JRO) and Julius Nyerere International Airport ( JNIA). Kilimanjaro International Airport is 45 Minutes drive to Arusha while Julius Nyerere International International Airport is 700 km from Arusha hence we advise you to use Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). The Kilimanjaro International airport (JRO) has regular flights to and from Amsterdam (KLM), Addis Ababa ( Ethiopian airlines), Doha (Qatar Airways), Nairobi (Kenya Airways), Kigali (Rwanda Air), Frankfurt via Momba-sa (Condor) and Turkey (Turkish OAirlines).

The Ministry of home affairs has allocated visa applicants into three categories:

Visa can be obtained on arrival at the Airport or Tanzania embassy in your country.Visa process takes an average of three weeks.

"For US Passport Holders, the Application fee is USD 100"

NOTE: We highly encourage you to obtain visa before coming toTanzania so as to reduce congestion at the airport on arrival day.

The registration process will be done through our website. We are testing and correcting our system of registration so as to ensure the process will be smooth and easy for all our delegates. We have a team standby to sort out all issues that will arise during the time of registration.

The organizing committee guarantees that every NMO will have 16 delegates, 8 for early registration and 8 for late registration for the GA. Please note that early registration cannot be accepted if a delegate finishes the registration after the deadline for early registration.

Deadline for early registration payment is 20th May 2017.

Deadline for PreGA and late registration payment is 20th June 2017. The organizing committee will send an invoice to every NMO after establishing the final number of participants.

Post GA payments will be done on the day of arrival at the registration desk.

NMOs who are unable to make online or bank transfers, the Organizing Committee will sign an online contract for cash payment after respective registration deadlines.

We have tried to prepare a self sustaining GA which run entirely on the registration fees of the dele-gates. But this does not mean we are not fundraising from other sponsors so be safe and even a best GA ever. We are working hard on that and we have already saved some service cost as part of fundraising.

We will explicitly share our finances as we go on and even after the GA.

We have organized two tours; one is a Safari tour and another one Zanzibar tour.

There is nothing on this planet comparable to safari in Africa and there is no better place on earth to enjoy this enriching experience than Tanzania. Tanzania can truly claim to be the home of the safari. The word safari itself is Swahili for journey. A safari is not simply wildlife viewing but an inspiring and transformative journey through various cultural, natural and wild experiences which gives you not only an appreciation for nature but also new purpose and lesson on life. The experience on safari is both inner and outer and they stay with you. There are cultural experiences that you will encounter along the way during your time in Tanzania, meeting some of Africa’s friendliest and most welcoming people. This 3 day safari will give an opportunity to vist Tarangire National park, Lake Manyara National park and Ngorogoro crater one of the wonders of the world.

Arusha enjoys a high elevation of 1,400 meters (4,600ft) on the southern slopes of mount Meru, thus climatic conditions are cooler with less humidity. Temperatures are from five to thirty degrees Celsius.

We advise you to carry a mix of warm clothes ( for cool climate) and summer wear (day time safari clothes). A wind cheater and a sweater is very useful.

Weather

Generally, Tanzanians are warm, polite and friendly. Exchanging greetings before starting any conver-sation is widely expected. Welcoming one for food, respecting the dressing sense and appreciation are highly regarded.

People
